To be honest I got the lamp given to me. Think its a cfl lamp. I run it around 18 hours on at the min. Nutes is in the soil I used and that's just compost. Got the first one in a 5 inch pot now under the lamp and 4 seeds that's just popped into smaller grow trays to they sprout.

Sorry I don't have much more info not up on all this at the mo, but when I find out I'll let you guys know.

It's pretty standard setup. BUt its working !!!

One other thing... If you look at my pic in profile... does that look like its stretching too much? And how often should I water it? I just wait to the top inch or so of the soil is dry because I was told that its when the roots normally have a growth spurt ?

Okay :) you got a grow log going! Sweet!

I wouldn't say your profile picture looks stretched, although it does look about 2 days old hehe.
Lets get you rolling with some info and hopefully we can turn that seedling into some smoke over the next 10 weeks odd!

Soil - any old compost is a bit of a risk, do you have a grow shop or garden centre near you? If you got a grow shop, maybe pick up some biobizz light mix. If a garden centre, try and get some John Innes number 1 seedling mix. You don't really want a soil with too many nutes as autos burn easy when they're little. If possible, mix in a good amount of perlite (about a third to be cautious) with the soil to make it airy and light for the roots to penetrate.

The pot - get yourself a pot that will be good from start to finish. I use about 9 litre pots. You should start your seed in that pot as autos don't like being transplanted too much (or its a risk if you're not a seasoned transplanter)

The seedling - aww it's only little, get yourself a litre and a half of coke, pour it down the drain (it's bad for you), cut the top off about 5 inches down from the lid, take off the lid, and pop it over your seedling. Keep the little one warm and add a bit of humidity for it to grow in.

The light- Get the cfl about 2 feet above for now (I'm presuming its a big mutha like mine and not a tiny house bulb), as you get a few leaves going on you'll want to lower it - eventually you'll want to be a few inches from the top with a fan blowing across the light.

Watering - about half a glass full every other day (for now - the bigger the plant the more you need to water) Make sure your PH is around the 6.2 - 6.5 mark. No nutes needed for now, just water at the right PH. It's good practice to pick up the pot when you've watered - see how heavy it is? When it needs watering, you'll see how light it is!!

You only need a little water around the base of the plant, don't soak it or you'll drown it and the Leaves will start to droop, don't let it dry out too much or she'll de-hydrate and (guess what) the leaves will start to droop.

Try that out for now and see if we can get some growth going over the next few days.

** these are my opinions and I won't be offended if others want to chime in with slightly different views** :)

Cheers blue, I live right round the corner from a garden centre so I'll be popping in tomorrow after work.

Ask for the coke bottle trick, that's awesome never thought of that at all..now I have to order pizza to get the coke.. ha.

I have the light about a foot from the pot so I'll take it up another foot and see what happens.

I've just had a look at it now and looks a real nice colour and even more leaves coming through from the middle now too.

And yeah the light is a big mother... Lights the whole place up when I open the door to the cave.

Thanks blue. Advice on board :peace:

No worries ^_^

I'm thinking i'm being a bit cautious with the 2 foot above the plant advice, better safe than sorry i suppose! I thought i saw a little crispiness around the edges of your first true leaves, but that could be the light on them. Does your light look orangy or blue? I've grown with the orange (flowering) CFLs from start to finish with very good results, so good infact that I started piling in 125w blue CFLS to see if the added spectrum would translate to more smoke. I didn't really add much for me other than a more expensive electricity bill.

These days if i'm doing a photo period I'll start vegging them under a 125w blue CFL for 2-3 weeks, then swap it out for my 250w enhanced spectrum grolux HPS light.

If i'm just doing autos, i'll go straight in with the HPS at about 3 - 4 feet above and wait for them to get within 12 inches of it and then start moving it up (doing the back of the hand test)

Crispiness? That don't sound good lol they look ok to me but I'll try get better pics up. I put another on my profile and avatar pics there.

The cfl light is the greatest white I've ever seen it actually stuns you if you look straight at it.
I'll try to get pics working for us to have a proper look.

Edit: its a cfl 125w lamp.
