Hello to you all. I have been granted a 2x2 area for a grow space by the boss. I recently moved and miss my girls :( I've been depressed about it. While this space is small and not well ventilated it's all I got for now.

I'm thinking about led to light my girl doubtful girls will fit. Anyway I'm normally a hid photo guy. This will be a lot of firsts for me if I can pull it off. What light do you think won't get too hot?

I'm thinking either dirt or dwc? Both firsts as I used 48 site ebb and grow before. What's your say on that?

Seeds photo is gone it's auto baby. I'm thinking of fast buds I want the glue but that small of cat piss the boss won't like. Maybe dark devil from another bank on here I saw. I really want couch lock so mainly indica is what I'm looking for. Any advice would be greatly appreciated and thanks for the help

Thanks for sharing. I know this may sound expensive at first but you did mention a small ventilation problem. Cheaper LEDs from eBay or Amazon can actually give off more heat and less usable photons than hps. What I always recommend is more efficient options. Cobs are the least expensive and easiest to acquire compared to Regular LEDs, small 3-5 watt chips made by Cree which are a great choice but finding a panel with Cree LEDs is very expensive. So back to the cobs. 4 cob lights can be expensive too around $500-700 but the heat savings is real. There is also a section here on afn about DIY cob lighting which can save you 50%. There are less expensive cobs by citizen that still produce the same results as Cree too. I wish lighting was inexpensive or as easy as just buying something that works and works great but unfortunately it's not. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll be sure to help where I can.

Thanks for the reply, honestly when I first started lurking a few days ago was the first time I heard of cob I have no idea what it is research is needed on my part. I had been searching the cheap led on eBay and the like. I will hold off on that.

I'm ok with one at a time in my space. I need enough light to give me a shot at 2 plus zones off a girl. My light budget is not high $250 is my top limit. I could push with a cc but really would rather not.

Anyway thanks. Time to see what cob lights are about.

A good option is timbergrow lights but at 400 it's over budget. Grow northern has citizen cobs and you could slap together a pretty inexpensive light that way. Check out the DIY cob section here. 3 or 4 citizen cobs, same number of pin style heat sinks, holders and a driver. They even sell frames now for 50$ so you don't have to do much besides wire it up and that's very simple.

Cheaper cobs are terrible honestly. The spectrum is bad, heat is bad and even the light output is bad. It's not like you have to buy the best but they should atleast be more efficient than hps. Citizen, vero and Cree pretty much do that. Everything else is a waste of money

Just checked out the diy section. I don't know if I'm to comfortable with that yet. If I had my own area for building and testing maybe but I really don't. The reviews of them online say what's available gets really hot. If someone was making custom ones I bet they could make some coin here and provide cool cob lights. I see it's fairly new too, hopfully when I have more space and time.

Looks like I may be back at led.

If you are looking at new lighting check out LEC or CMH (light emitting ceramic or ceramic metal halide)

just to compare heat from these 3 light techs I used 315 watts since the ceramic is 315 watts

315w cmh =563 btu of heat

Not that you can get 315 watts of cobs or hps but using those numbers

315w cobs =375 btu of heat

315w hps =692 btu of heat

MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN I have been lookin for the friggin BTUS of the different lights and maaaaaaaaaaaaan I am soooooooooo stoked to see the CMH's are that high(I am weird and actually need the heat lol)

Is the amount of heat from led more than cob?
It depends. The newer Cree LEDs are very efficient. Companies like Mars, kind, black dog Apollo all use epistar or brigelux and they are the same or worse than hps.
