Grow Mediums New to dwc need help asap !!

Well last night i gt home to a bad case of root rot , and when i touch the roots , they just fall of so i rinsed the roots of with peroxide , and just replanted in the hydroton clay pebbles in a 5 gallon bucket .

I think ima hv to go bk to the drawing bored and gt that tea and a lot more other stuff before i start bk up thanks guys for all your help . Just a small set bk but i will be bk

I am so sorry to hear that... I guess I can consider myself lucky I haven't had any root rot issues in my two years of doing DWC. Remember to next time add some silica to the solution when you start seeing some roots, it should help protecting them. I am looking forward on brewing tea also so that is going to be really interesting new adventure.

Hello Medgrower that is the right stuff but i say its pricey and it only has a few bennies in it. Take a look at this, it might suit you better if your in the UK.
All the ingredients you need to brew batches upon batches of tea to kill root rot and give the plants that great added boost. The owner is very helpful and will talk you through any problems he is also great a brewing teas.
You wont need to buy anymore of this stuff for along long time either unlike that bottle you had up previously.

I do live in a small country that does generally have pretty limited stock of items available for any serious gardener, but thank you for the advice anyway. I will get that pricey bottle and make the best out of it rather than start importing the better one. You gotta start from somewhere anyway so this is better than nothing.

If you don't get the temp down in your res, nothing will help temp should be between 64-70F ( 17.7 - 21.1C ) Silica won't do anything to end/prevent root rot. After changing the res you should get Aqau Sheild or a similar product, it can help stop the root rot. If you have a bad case, est to throw out the plants and start fresh. You can wash your clay pebbles in a mild bleach solution and re-use them

Hey bud. One other way to take care of this is a product called uc roots which is made by cultured solutions. Some people make claims that it's just watered down bleach but I can tell you now that before I got my chiller I was running at 75 degrees and using this stuff never had any root issues and everything stayed clean. You can't run it with teas or organic but if your using gh it's good to use. I am not using it this grow due to lower temps and using RE and cannazym but in your situation I really think it could help you. If I had a way to I'd pay for your bottle if it didn't work for you that's how much I believe in the product. Even if you don't use it now give it a try sometime and see what you think

Here's some roots on day one of flower.. stayed this way to the end but completely stuffed the 8gallon buckets with health white roots. Remember temps were averaging 73 to 75

I am sorry but I have been under an impression that it actually does do something to protect the roots. I don't mean to start an argument about it but;

"Silicon deposition in the epidermal cells of plants act as a barrier against penetration of invading fungi such as powdery mildew and Pythium. Following a fungal infection, greater deposits of silicon are found around the affected plant tissue showing that silicon is selectively accumulated at the site. Silicon is also deposited in the cell walls of roots where it acts as a barrier against invasion of the stele by parasites and pathogens. Tests conducted on cucumbers, melons and tomatoes determined that soluble silicon must be available to the plant during the period of infection by fungal spores. The silicon is deposited at the sites of infection to form stronger, harder cell walls to deter the fungus. Silicon also stimulates the production of polyphenolic compounds which form part of a plant's natural defenses against fungal infection and insect attack. Silicon is rapidly bound in leaf tissue and will be deposited in a non-translocatable form within 24 hours. Therefore a continuous source of soluble silicon is very important to combat pathogens. This can be from constant feeding in hydroponics or from retention in the growing medium with soils or soilless mixes."

First time I've ever heard this. Guess we will see! :Sharing One:

I believe it does help, but in conjunction with a beneficial tea. I use Pro-tek from dyna gro at 5mls per gallon starting at week 2 of veg all the way last week before i flush in flower.

Ya guys when its all said and done i just dnt hv enough nutrients to properly do a hydro grow . Im use to growing in soil and had everything that i needed for soil . Just nt everything i need for hydro to b able to deal with this type of problem .

So all i hv for hydro is the 3 part Gh micro , grow ,bloom , so could u guys put me a list of stuff together im going to need to be successful , and when i gt paid this coming week ,im going to go pick up all the proper things i need to b successful !!

And i think im going to insulate my buckets to keep the temps down , cause i can turn up the ac unit and keep my tent temps at any temp to keep the buckets cool

AND THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP GUYS !!!!

I think you will be good with the GH 3 part. Imo if you go synthetic then use uc roots or something similar but as far as organic I'm clueless unless in soil haha. I have always wanted to run organic hydro but seems like a PITA. So here is an idea of a list...
GH. GMB
UC Roots or H&G drip clean
Dynagro protekt "silica"
Then if you want additives for resin and flavor then either run something like bud candy and big bud or stay with GH additives. I have used GH a lot but never used their additives. When I ran GH I used advanced additives and also used H&G additives. Sorry if this doesn't help you much but I won't recommend and products I haven't tried cause I'd hate to cause issues by giving false info.

Hey Shed Id go for the GH supplements if that's what base feed you have .Would make your life a bit easier & you can run there grow charts on there site as a rough but useful guide .Extra silicon maybe & the bennie tea ingredients & your good to go .
I cooked a good few beans before joining here & learning proper hydro ,had to change some kit ,buy better meters & get some quality help from some decent people here ,but glad i stuck with it & if you have a passion to grow you will get there bro:Cool bud:

If you have AC make res temps & root health priority & the next run will go a lot better. :Sharing One:
