Grow Mediums New to dwc need help asap !!

Last I tried 5.8ph on my recent grow, in just a day or to got some browning of the older leaves and they got all crusty. I raised it up to 6.2 and now they seem a bit happier. I just dont know why but thats what happens to me. Many say that 5.5 to 5.8 would be optimal but in my experience I just get trouble! I have used couple ph meters both calibrated so it is not that.

This is really weird. I wonder why it is like that in my case?
There are always variables & everyone's growroom is different ,like you say 5.5-5.8 is optimal & should work in most cases .That's where I keep it in veg & get good results as do many others .Best advise for new growers is stay as close to 5.8 the magic ~

I am using a recirculating system with three pots....about 15 gallons max. cap.
Also using the GH trio, and the other stuff that came with it.

For almost the total veg, period I was (accidentally) using the 1/4th of their flood and drain formula (lower dosage formula), instead of the recirculating formula, and I still was getting nitrogen overload (ppm only around 400).
More than a couple times I ended up dumping nutes to dilute it down.
Now I'm in flower, and I have been winging it, and so far, so good, but I am not going much above 400ppm.

Also, if you are using the color test kit that comes with the GH kit as I am, you have probably noticed it is very hard to distinguish the color.
I am going to purchase something more accurate, in the future

So I'm guessing with Hydro/Auto flower ,it's somewhat trial and error, but you notice and can correct things quickly.
Ounce thy get bigger, they are more forgiving.
Best of luck

CAM01140.jpg This day 10 CAM01138.jpg and a pic of the roots . I checked ppm and ph this morning and ph went from 5.7 to 6.0 and the ppm went from 300 ppm to 297 ppm . So i thought they need more nutes so i adjusted the ph back to 5.7 and the ppm up to 340 ppm . Was this the right thing to do or should i dilute the ppm back down . I dont want to burn them up .

I also hv a vision seeds auto ak49 thats nt looking so goodCAM01139.jpg

Sounds sweet bro .Good luck & have a look around the forum ,there's lots of great threads with golden hydro info that will help you out :Sharing One:

So today is day ten CAM01138.jpgCAM01140.jpg This is a pic of the plant and the roots. Ok so last time ph 5.7 and ppm 300 . So i checked this morning and ph 6.0 and 297 ppm . So i figured they needed more cause ppm dropped a little so i took ph to 5.7 and ppm up to 340 ppm. Is this the riggt move or do i need to dilute the ppm back down to 300 ppm . I dnt want to burn my babies .

And this is the auto ak-49 thats looking droopy CAM01139.jpg Its in a 5 gallon bucket also it dnt hv any roots coming out of the net cup im watering from top and its 5 days old do i need to raise the water level up to bottom of net pot

I use GH 3 Part and all I can say is ONLY USE HALF the recommended dose.
Here are my 2 threads on my 2 grows. Both are DWC.

I used a 30 gallon tote and switched to a 50 gallon for this grow.

https://www.autoflower.org/f6...ous-38286.html
two 5 gallon buckets with 8" netpot tops.

Cheapest way is 5 gallon buckets, air pump and air stones. 5 gallon tops with 8" net pots built in. I use the 2 liter frozen bottle method to keep my rez cool but I recommend a chiller if you can afford it. Current Culture has some great DWC stuff also. Here is a link

Not sure what your budget is. I use General Hydroponic Flora Series It's a 3 part nutrient solution. Grow Micro and Bloom. Then some Floralicious Plus the last 4 weeks of flowering. I use 1/2 the recommend amount and I also use UC Roots. This stuff is the BOMB! My plants are so healthy.

I use 1/2 of the recommended amount and measure for 4 gallons of water cause it's about a gallon subtracted for the netpot. I am using 5 gallon buckets. Just take the length of your auto's life which is about 9 to 12 weeks and breakdown the steps on the feeding chart to coincide with your auto's life cycle. Most nute feeding charts are for photo plants. You just have to improvise the feeding and take care of your girls. When topping off your rez just use plain water and ph after you added the water to your rez. I don't get all caught up in the PPM and all that other stuff. I K.I.S.S.(keep it simple stupid) I use a vile for the water and a 3 drop solution and look at the color. I keep my PH between 5.7 and 6 and it is consistent. Also for the last 4 weeks you want to use some GH Florolicious Plus. Very little but use it. I also use UC roots. I use this until the last week of flowering.

This is what I would do for a 11 week grow using General Hydroponics 3 part Flora Series

Seedling 1 week
Mild Growth 1 week
Growth 1 Week
Aggressive Growth 2 Weeks
Transition 1 Week
Bloom 2 weeks
Aggressive Bloom 2 Weeks
Ripen 1 week (I have heard to switch back to a metal halite for potency for the last week too. I did it not sure if it worked or not. I gonna leave the HPS in until the end this time to see if there is a difference.)

Also like I said already K.I.S.S(Keep it simple stupid.) I PH once a week and it might change .1 or.2 which is no sweat. I know I am changing my buckets once a week and I PH after adding Nutes to 5.6-5.8 using a 3 drop solution. I have had 5 very healthy plants with awesome smoke. Don't sweat the PPM and PH to much. You might over think it. I did that a few years ago until my friend showed me the simple way. I saw his grow and WOW. I wanted to grow just like him and now I am. Good Luck!!

Don't worry about the ak-49 too much. Maybe she is droopy because of the rockwool being so damp for her or something? Hemp is not a swamp plant and right now she is really focusing on just making a proper taproot. I am certain she will be happy soon.

Thanks so much guys , sorry i double posted trying to figure out this grow journal stuff lol

Thanks sabreman 61 that is much needed info , and im gonna check out your grows right now after this update . And i use the GH trio to and i hv a sample bottle of Floralicious . That i can use when the time comes

And thanks medgrower i was getting worried about the auto ak , ya the rockwool was kind of wet when i checked it so i shaked it out a little and burried it back down in the rock wool . The tap root is just starting to come out of the bottom of the rockwool . So im going to wait a couple of days before i gv it water again

You're welcome bro! Never squeeze the rockwool if you want to rinse it even before planting a seed or anything since that makes it lose some of its ability to breathe and bring air to the early vegging roots. I have done that mistake in past while preparing my rockwool cubes. Best to just soak them and keep it at that.

I am really obsessed over this Ph -issue so I understand if it is starting to be little annoying with you. I checked some Ph charts for hydro and some say Magnesium intake is locked under 5.9 and some say Calsium intake is locked over 5.8. It is just ridiculous that not even the Ph charts for nutrient absorbtion are the same or agree with each other. I wonder does chelators like fulvic acid change the game when it comes to Ph by allowing root system to intake essential elements even when they are not in their normal "absorbtion range" in Ph.

Anyway, I will gently nudge my reservoir to that magic 5.8ph again to douple check if the problem was related to that or not. This really bothers me a lot.

Sorry again if this is just.....:horse: :WTF:
I cannot help my nerdiness.
