Best of all, from now on castings are free. I only had to drive 3 miles to get wiggles how cool is that. just a bait shop away.
only starting with 4 doz. after 2 weeks there is alot more now. Breed away.
Here are some pics. I just put in there food then took pic.

I made this by putting wholes in bottom of 1 of 2 identical totes.placed one inside the other. I put air wholes in lid. Added paper bags some cardboard. small amount of water. Put old vegs in, and bang worm farm. Very Cool. Yes i am old i use the word COOL often. haha

any input would be great.

I just pulled the trigger on my first organic grow.I really like your worm farm, and it is cool, and yes i am old also.a4 is the man,a lifetime of knowledge is priceless. I,m still trying to catch up on all the old organic threads.Good growin man.Peace.

Worm farming is a great thing! All those worm casting do wonders for your garden, seedlings even seem to sprout faster! I just expanded to my third bin. The new bin is being feed old rootballs mostly, just a little food scraps now and then. Does this work? You decide............

I wish i had the room for something like that,I got three 45 gal.bins already for my soil mix.Real nice man.Peace.

this bin is outdoors behind my greenhouse. I shaded it with a piece of panda poly. If you do one outside harvest the castings just before winter and refill the bin. in spring a few will still have survived and they'l lrepopulate the bin
Thanks man,i may do that, its just so hot here, and we have a really bad mouse problem. All my bins are inside because of the heat and gritters. Its just easier to keep the bins hydrated. The summer heat is just getting ramped up here, yesterday it was 103,with high humidity, real feel temp is 111.They said its supposed to be that way all week.I got a couple of old plastic bins,i may try that in the fall.Have a good day brother.Peace.

Disposing of rootballs, especially big one was a problem until I started worm farming! I process most of my used soil that way now. I add some food waste, grass clippings, shredded leaves, newspaper, and composted cow manure and also garden waste. I now have 5 bins, 3 20 gallon and two 50 gallon. rootballs are mostly gone within 90 days! I chop stems with a hatchet and put them in too. they take longer but will get digested.

WC is the best amendment you can add to soil IMO.

My worm farm keeps getting better and better, fine tuning it between food waste, egg shells, garden cuttings and brown material (paper, cardboard, leaves etc) took me a few months but now it's thriving. Harvested almost 40ltrs of castings a few months ago. I noticed the white fuzz we all love when I just checked. I've got quite a bit of the 'black gold' worm pee collecting now too. Worm farms rule.

I'm a bit late on this but grats on the farm!

I love worms. Not only are they great for our needs as growers, but they can eat more than my toddler. I just harvested my 1st set of casting the other day. I may just being partial, but they are the best I have seen. I'm sure same goes for most home worm guys. Gives you a proud feeling. Full of babies, and cocoons too. I look forward to splitting it soon.

I actually just got a rabbit today to add to the arsenal of organic ferts. Mr. Thurgood Jenkins (Formaly known a Barron Thurgood von Jenkins Duke of Tarheelis)is now a part of the family.
