if i have a photo strain how would i grow it with the autos??? i know i would just flower eairly to keep it short.but thats all i know.lol
Ideally you'll want both your feed solution and your run off to be about the same or pretty close to 6.3. That means that the pH is in balance.
TDS, Total Desolved Solids, and PPM, Part Per Million, are both ways of measuring the strength of your solution. Mostly you'll only be concerned with pH but ppm is handy to check the strength of what you are feeding, and to check your plain water. If your water is low PPM you may need to add some cal/mag solution to raise it for proper pH buffering.
If you really want to understand pH, take a look at this article: https://www.autoflower.org/f42/ph-information-1956.html

Isn't MJ in soil best grown at around 6.5-7.0, bottom-line? What is going on here? I keep getting conflicting info on this. Seeing that adjusting to 6.2 got me into big trouble, I am inclined to go with those who swear by the more neutral ph level, my soil was at 5.5 andOF is around 5.2 out of the bag, right, so don't you want to significantly raise that for MJ?
I agree that PPM/TDS shouldn't be a factor for soil, unless you're using RO/Distilled water, which is basically a "blank slate" of water - it's a transport mechanism at that point, what you add to it is what matters (whether it's in the soil, or via the nutes/additivies you put in it). This is why filtered tap water, which has a higher PPM/TDS ratio, isn't such a bad thing for your plants, if you're removing/reducing the chlorine and pollutants from it first of course via a filter of some kind.
In any case, and seriously I apologize as I don't meant to be confrontational, but there are a lot of variables, yet shouldn't the understanding be that your soil needs to "end up" in the 6.5+ range, at least? And how you get there involves the variables.
Not questioning your knowledge/experience, but this really threw me off and screwed up my first grow - either I'm misunderstanding or there's something going on, on the interwebs, that is confusing people.
Weed likes the soil to be slightly acidic so does best with a slightly lower pH. Also the type of grow medium you are using factors in. With a soil less mix like Pro Mix or Sunshine Mix the pH can be even lower, as low as 5.8 while soil mixes likecan be a little higher. This has been born out through numerous grows. When you start getting up around 7 it's likely that you'll start to run into lock out issues. 6.5 is fine, but a little lower is better.
thanks muddy for your genius input!!!
ps.to tokinnuggz i suggest mabye you talk to a few more pro's and get the info on soil/soilless before you go spitting out those type of comments you could have just made me mess up my grow luckley i have muddy
