Indoor Northern Lights Autofem (Nirvana) - Grow Journal

Hi All, I just wanted to start my Journal thread off.

Basically I have built a 1.5m (h) x 60cm x 60cm box, it has room for a 250w cfl (got blue and red ones).

Just started germinating two seeds over the weekend - one popped within 36 hours and has about a 1 inch root, the other looked popped but no long root - have planted both and will see if the runt makes it.

I am using air-pots, I thought they were 10l each, but on filling them with soil I have found they are 15l each - going to be fun watering these

Soil is Biobizz allmix, and I have the full biobizz nute range (Heaven, Grow, Bloom, TopMax, Root Juice) which I have used for a few grows now (as in I havent run out yet).

Only issues I am having at the minute is the cold - with the light on 24/0 the maximum temps I am getting is 17c; so I have put two 60w tube heaters inside on a thermostat to switch on when below 20c - hopefully this does the trick. The box is in a garage and ambient is around 5c at the minute.

I know my cabling needs to be re-done, plan on doing that and adjusting the way the fan and cf is setup during the next week or so. Had to rush the finishing touches due to time constraints - I need to harvest early June at the latest.

Good luck with your grow Ive got the same seeds from Nirvana. I have 3 and 2 are bushy and 1 is tall. Smell very nice too

thanks fatcalvin - what is the height of your tallest one?

I built a small shelf for the CF and Fan today - much better since I do not have to hang them and also moved the cfl hangers onto the shelf therby creating more space to arrange things.

However, on that I have had to switch the exhaust fan off as its getting so cold here (1.5c now) that my temps were just tanking - even with the speed turned down to 20%. The temp is now sat at 20c with two 60w tube heaters and the 250w cfl on full time. Since I can get away without the girls smelling for a few weeks this is probably fine, I will also open the door once a day until the weather warms up.

No sign of sprouting yet, but it has only been a day.

hi all, could I ask a question around fans.

I was testing out the fan/cf and noticed that the fan was intaking air from the side of the fan - as in the gaps. During the last grow, I did notice some smell outside of the grow box but didnt think anything of it.

So, I have put sealant all the way around and blocked up the gaps and now there is no air being sucked in around here (as in the picture)

Now, the questions which I probably should of asked is a) I assume the fan should only be intaking air through the intake connected to the cf? b) is it safe to block up those gaps?

one finally popped her head up.. the other one was the runt and I suspect will not grow. Going to give her 1 more full day then pull.

To be honest I am not surprised, the packaging from Nirvana had adhesive backing on the paper holding the seeds in place. Pretty sure the seeds were coated in adhesive when I germinated - I did tried very lightly rubbing it off with the tissue and water.

Anyone got an opinion on the fan question? My local hyrdo store thinks thats what he would have done.

I have no idea about blocking those gaps on the fan, but it seems logical. I can't imagine how that would cause any problems. Seems like a design/manufacture flaw.

I would keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't run hot or anything.

Also, regarding Nirvana. The adhesive is ridiculous. I bought a 5 pack of Short Rider and in one of the bubbles they put two seeds lol. (I didn't get an extra, they just put two in the same bubble). My point is that they overlooked the most obvious details and that adhesive packing they have cannot be beneficial.

Nice setup! Gonna keep an eye on this cause I'm interested in doing a soil grow this summer.

what are you planning to grow in the summer vick - anything nice?

The runt still hasnt popped so will pull in the morning; I will dry in the same box which means its too late to germinate another plant as I wouldn't be able to stagger harvests - this means the one plant has a 15l pot and 250w to spread out into (shame cos I have some AKR's to do next)
