So a friend of mine was telling me that Advanced Nutrients has heavy metals in them.

Choose 'Firm Name' -> 'Advanced Nutrients' then click on one of the products and it will give you some kind of analysis of the stuff in it. Loads of them show traces of some pretty scary sounding heavy metals.

It's a bit strange and I don't really understand it but would like to.

I checked Canna as well and even though they weren't as bad some showed heavy metals as well.

Thoughts?

I think its ashame.LOL! Ive been looking into this myself a little.Since I was told when I saw the neuro dude,he wanted to test me for heavy metals since I had hardcore unexplained headaches.turns out I have MS with a small baseball sized lesion in my skull ,and those tthree tthings are linked imho.since MS has been said to be linked or even flatoutt causes various forms of MS among many other pretty serious health issues.:pass: thats my two cents.be good everyone.:smoke: thats why Im hellbent on growing organic.

Those heavy metals found in the lab analysis show from .1 - .001 ppm found in the analysis. There is more of these heavy metals found in fish meat than nutrients. I dont get what the big deal is? People are acting like this is toxic poison, Very small amounts were found and I can think of 100 things we are exposed to every day that have more toxins in them than this...
 
over the course of many years they build up and many cant pass and build up.causing most times,serious health issues.stand alone single use is fine imho,but over the course with foods we eat,lifestyles we lead and so on.imho its a looking tto the future choice for me.and to help clense myself of the exsisting toxins as best I can.thats what I take from it.:Sharing One:

What I take from this is this... My grandparents lived until their late 90's, in their time many substances were used that they didnt know were toxic until later on... Asbestos, lead, mercury, radiation form nuclear arms testing in world war ll you name it.. To tell you the truth here when you are in your late 90's you cant remember anything, you cant walk down the street by yourself, cant even use the toilet on your own because you might fall and break a hip.. If thats what is in store when you get old then Im not so sure I want to live past that..

If you want to live healthier more power to you, but the amounts found in these nutrients arent going to impact you much.. And have any buds been tested grown from any of these nutrients? I know you can grow from many types of guanos and dungs but that doesnt make the buds taste like poo... Just because something is fed to a plant doesnt mean the plant absorbs it.. To me this research is inconclusive...

Levels of arsenic in soil from 5 ppm up to 20 ppm are generally viewed as safe, even if contact with arsenic at these levels continues for many years. If the level of arsenic in soil is within this range, the potential for any health effect is very small. In fact, contact with arsenic in soil even somewhat above these levels will likely have no health effects. However, if levels do exceed this range, another risk assessment may be done that looks specifically at the site being evaluated to determine what level will be safe for that particular situation.
As the level of arsenic increases, however, there is some slight increase in the likelihood of chronic health effects from contact over many years. Above this level, if a large amount of arsenic is ingested at one time (such as by a child who intentionally eats soil) there could be health effects such as gastrointestinal distress and facial swelling.

I guess in my opinion; if you wanted to be a purist, go with something that comes back with zero traces of any of those heavy metals. If that doesn't bother you, those ppm (parts per million) amounts are incredibly small, nor do they accurately represent the heavy metal concentrations of your growing substrate, and most likely doesn't take into account the dilution from adding water to them. Toxic metals can be diluted into a solution, as immediate toxicity is a function of concentration rather than amount. Many of those heavy metals are naturally occurring and exist in nature in much higher concentrations than what's listed on some of those nutrient bottles, while still falling under the acceptable guidelines of agencies like the EPA.

The problem with heavy metals is something called bioaccumulation. Bioaccumulation is when your body takes in a substance faster than it can expel it.

This might not be the best example, but think about drinking alcohol. Let's say your body metabolizes one beer per hour. You drink a beer. The ethanol molecules are water soluble, so they easily enter the blood stream, quickly traveling through your body (and the liver (ohhhh my guts hurt!) and brain (heyyyy good lookin'! :hump:) They are also fat soluble, which is like a golden ticket to Willy Wonky's Chocolate Factory, ie, cell membranes and otherwise off limit parts of your body.

The issue with those heavy metals is that they don't often metabolize quickly or at all. Some heavy metals will imitate actions of essential elements in the body, interfering with normal metabolic processes. Since different heavy metals have different biological half-lifes, or the time it takes for the metal to lose half it's pharma/physio/radiologic activity, the more exposure you have to them, the higher chance of accumulation in your body and the greater risk of problems with your health.

What I did find is that the minimum acceptable concentration levels of some of these metals varies between countries, and some of the metals don't appear to have a cut-off level with particular agencies.

Hobbes that is exactly what Im talking about! There are higher concentrations of this crap in things we touch and ingest every day... Look at the analysis of miricle grow, some of these poisons are 277 ppm!!!! Yet this is sold on every shelf of every commercial store that sells nutrients. Its also found in some of the grass you walk on and the fruits and veggies that we eat.

To me it sounds like they are doing their best to cut back on these elements, I dont think big mike is sitting there with a barrel of Arsenic laughing as he dumps it into a batch of nutrients. A barrel of Arsenic would get him surrounded by extreme military force and he would be charged as a terrorist!

Another point is they are part of whats know as trace elements and in minute quantities are either good for you, or harmless. In fact, I'm willing to bet they can be found even in "organic" nutrients. accumulation in people and animals, happens when there are high concentration exposure. Fish with dangerous levels of PCB or mercury, have been exposed to 1000's of ppm not .01ppm. I'd be more worried about the rainwater you use on your organic garden if you live east of the Mississippi!

My dad smoked cigarettes (heavily) from age 20 until he passed away at age 84. I don't think that would stand as proof cigarettes aren't all that bad. :)

I don't think trace amounts of heavy metals in ferts is as bad as chain smoking your whole life. Just saying anecdotal examples of longevity aren't the norm. (Yes, I played with mercury in my bare hands when I was a kid in the '60s. Didn't kill me. But, wouldn't do it again.).
