Grow Mediums Organic Hydroponics ?

Good luck on this one Steely. I did a lot of research before my first venture into hydro and everything I read recommended against the use of organics in hydro. I did try using some organic tea on my first grow and the results were disastrous. Major root slime which quickly inhibited growth. Not saying it can't be done, but you may be setting yourself up for some major headaches.

Have a look at the GHE Bio Filter to helps keep organic hydro pathogen free.

Biofilter

Biofilter is a very innovative product in the field of hydroponics .
amongst other things, it removes algae.
This filter generates the micro cosmos nutrient solution so far only found in crops with soil. The GHE Biofilter is a filter that cleans, purifies, detoxifies and oxygenates the water and nutrient solution.
Inside is a sponge that retains all floating debris and organic matter. The blue cascading waterfall boosts the oxygen content and purifies water by removing harmful compounds released by the roots.
Biofilter allows roots to grow healthy and to absorb all the nutrients they need. This filter is very effective because it limits the types of stress that are often occur in the growing of marijuana.
When to use the GHE Biofilter:

  • Temperature too high
  • Inadequate ventilation or excess humidity.
  • Inadequate oxygenation of the nutrient solution.
  • Poorly drained substrate.
  • Poorly balanced nutrient solution ...
How to use the GHE Biofilter:

This filter is very easy to use. Once started, it can be left running continuously. You only have to add water when BioMagix (once every 6-8 weeks) is added to the nutrient solution.

Organic hydroponics are generally not as straight forward as non-organic hydroponics.
Thorough oxygenation of nutrient solution is essential
And in reading I have seen ph can crash suddenly if not well monitored.

A good model to look into would be aquaculture systems, they are more complex because you are really building an ecosystem just like you do in good tlo or organic soil.
To date, I have not seen any serious cannabis grows in aquaponics systems and the ones I have seen, were approached very casually in my estimation and so the plants did not at all reach potential.
In my opinion, it is something that is easier done in "larger than closet" scale.

Thanks for info, links, opinions.

I think i'll stick to inorganic.

Cheers,

steely

I bought a General Organics GO box with the end goal of trying it with a DWC 1-bucket kit, just to try my hand at it and see if I can get organic hydro running sometime. It's done a miracle for my soil plants, so it might just be enough nute for a full run. Just some thoughts :) if it blows up the universe, you can blame Anthro lol

I tried this a few years ago and will never touch it again. I had it go anerobic and what a nightmare. I had a really nice setup that was going great and after being gone a week for vacation it didn't take long to go bad and get out of hand after a few power outages.

With Organics and hydro it takes on a whole different process than just using soil or Coco or Perlite. To me...It's not the way to go.

I'm devising a system to cope with organics in RDWC. But way too soon, though I have a kick-ass idea... :xlaugh: Anyway, subbing up for reference

Actually, it seems to be the aerated DWC/RDWC has the most problems with organics though I'm not sure why. I've4 been testing the Kratky method using organics ( compost tea ) and the only issue I've had is that the tea did not seem to supply enough nutrition. I'll be testing a new formula in the near future as I think it has the potential to work. Of it does, it would mean an organic hydro system that has the benefits of DWC without the issues that can arise, and the elegance of a dead simple system, ie, no water pumps, no air pumps. I have 2 Kratky buckets running right now. so far, the longest test run has been about 5 weeks. That runs was ended because the plant I used had been damaged by my crappy tap water and was just never going to be worth the effort to grow out. there was never any sign of root rot or any other pathogen, even with room temps as high as 84F
