My Plants are becoming too fragrant. I have a carbon filter but it's not doing the job. Will using an Ozone Generator near my plants harm them? Any recommendations?

Ozone can be dangerous, to the plants and to you. Personally, I don't think its worth the risk or expense. If your carbon filter isn't cutting it, either its too small, or your fan is too small to move enough air through it. Also, carbon filters have a finite life span, the become saturated and need replacing after a few months to a year. You need to calculated the cu.ft of your grow room, then buy a fan accordingly.

My Filter is new and I'm only moving 27 cubic feet of air with a 5" fan. The tent is almost inside out when I crank the fan. I've found a $53 ozone generator, which was well reviewed. How is ozone dangerous to the plants?

Every thing I read says the same. Something isn't right if you are still getting smell through your filter (and a new one at that.) 27 CF, Is that a 4x4x7? How many plants are in there and what age are they?

Do you have some pictures of it, or links to the filter and fan you are using as well?

Also, do you an intake? Or only exhaust?

3*3*3 tent 6 Fast Bud, only 3 are flourishing (I have a grow log going for more detail.) They have not started flowering yet. The smell outside the tent is not bad yet. I'm afraid that everyone who enters my house will be able to smell them when walk in once they start flowering. I am sucking the air out of the tent and blowing it through the filter. Which is a 4"
VenTech IF4CF412 4" Inline Duct Fan 190 CFM w/ Virgin Charcoal from Amazon.

Do you have an intake as well? link me to the log as well bud.

Thanks.

One part that confuses me. You said you are sucking air out and blowing it through the filter. That would have a reverse effect and make a big mess. Not sure if thats how you really have it, like you worded it wrong.

My filter and fan are both in my tent 4x4x7. The fan has two sides to it. One that sucks, and one that blows. I have my filter on the side that sucks air through it, then pushes the air out the ducting. So the air that is being sucked through my filter, then gets pushed through my fan then out my ducting.

From what way you worded that, it sounds like you have your fan sucking air out of the tent with the fan, down the ducting and pushing it out the filter. If thats the case you have it wrong bud and need to change that.

http://www.nachi.org/ozone-generator-hazards.htm That's also worth a reading. You had a question on why would it kill plants.

I am not an expert whatsoever, but I have used Ozone generators before without any problem.

From my experience ozone is incredibly effective. However, it will take some planing and experimentation po make them work properly. I will tell you what I know and then what I've done.

1) Ozone do have a negative effect on plants. Imagine that adding ozone boost the power to oxidise of the air, which in the plus side kills the bacteria in the air and eliminates the odour. But in the down side it does the same to about anything it gets in contact with.

2) Ozone gets consumed while eliminating the odours. Any excess ozone stays in the air and fades out about 50% every half an hour.

3)Not used ozone stinks.

4) Ozone generators' output is measured in milligrams/hour.

So what I am doing is I made a box where the air from my grow room goes to get mixed with the ozone. Smelly air goes through the carbon filter then goes into the box where I mix the air with ozone made by an ozone generator plugged into a timer. Then the air is extracted to the regular exit of the room.

Ideally you should generate just enough ozone to kill the smell but not over doing it to avoid any excess ozone. You can asses this by producing the least ozone you can and keep increasing it little by little until you see the smell vanish. Mine is an $20 10-50 mlg generator and I have it on 15 minutes every 75 minutes. I am on the early stages of growing so my smell issues is very low however I have use a similar strategy before for full the full grow where you couldn't smell anything whatsoever standing right in front of the door.

If you can get a more precise timer is even better. I think the investment worth the potential benefit. But please DO NOT PUT YOUR GENERATOR INSIDE THE GROWING AREA. This will take its toll on the taste of your buds and on the health of the plants. Make sure that you are not constantly breading the air with ozone your self. If you can feel the funny smell of ozone then you may be in risk. If you slip in the same room try having the generator off during the night time. Try to get your generator to leave a little bit of smell so you can be on the safer side.

Ozone is especially dangerous if you have people or animals with sensitive respiratory issues. Hard to put into the words about the zooms generator but here maybe this will say it in more layman terms.

Sauce has it dead on as far as best setup for fan/filter. The way you have them setup could be the reason you are noticing smells still. Maybe throw a ona jar in the tent?

Sauce, I am growing in a 30" tall tent that I've elevated to the top of my hydro res. I don't have room to house the fan and filter in the tent (24" is all I've got.) I am letting the replacement air come in through the zippers and closures of the tent. However you make a good point, if I let more air in the system will process more air. I'll try it. Thanks for the link. I've found a generator with a variable control. So I'll take it easy on the O3. I'm growing in an uninhabited part of my house.

Chocolaton, Brilliant I am definitely putting the generator in the exhaust vent to minimize the ozone. Can you link me to your ozone generator? Thanks for the advice.

Thanks for the link Minch Wyhill

PS Sauce my log is at https://www.autoflower.org/f44/first-timer-33036.html

If you have room, only place the filter in the tent, have the hose come out of the tent, then attach the fan out side of the tent. So it's pulling air from the filter out the ducting. This way you will only have the filter in the tent.
