hey folks, I just happened to be checking out my plant this mourning and found something disturbing, I really hope this isnt mold but if it is, can anyone tell me my options? I found this site a couple of inches below a pretty big bud, the bud itself looked ok but I didnt really dig into it because im already late for work. I guess im wondering if i cut out the whole stem, is the bud still good if i dont find any mold? The plant is on its last legs so to speak ( see my last update post on "little dwarf" from monday ) so it wouldnt be horrible if I had to cut everything to inspect. Any and all opinions are welcomed and needed
Thanks mold2.jpgmold1.jpg I forgot to mention that about a month ago I almost killed the plant with improper ph'd water and nutes so I was thinking maybe this was just dead plant mater.

I'm no expert on mold or bud rot but I'd say that's bud rot. I'd cut the bud out. Also it's best to pluck dead leaves off the plant when they start to turn and dry up, this will help prevent these problems.
Someone will be around with a better diagnosis so don't act on this until an expert drops in. Good luck :smokebuds:

Hey crossman, from what I can see that looks like budrot. Does the leaves that you have pictured seem quite moist? Typically from what I have seen you will have one or two leaves that are really tucked away close to the bud that will begin dying. That is at the point I have always caught it. I haven't seen it go that far. So here is the deal, if you can harvest it now, my personal opinion, I would do it and do it quickly. Budrot spreads very quickly once established. There may be some that differ with me but once I have the rot, I chop the plant and trim everything at once and then instead of my normal procedure of hanging the entire stems with buds attached to dry, I go ahead and trim all the buds off looking very carefully at each one for rot. If I find one, I toss it. Once all the buds are off I air dry in an OPEN paper bag with only a few buds in each bag along with a dehumidifier in the room I am drying in. You want to get those buds dried as quickly as possible. The problem is, the spores are already there so the quicker you can dry, the less chance you have of more loss. I wouldn't let it grow any longer, some people will say trim the affected buds off but in my experience it is going to spread 90% of the time regardless and it spreads quick. Better to harvest what you have if you can and cut your losses to a minimum. Once everything is harvested, clean the entire grow area up with a weal solution of distilled water and bleach. I normally use 10% solution. The mold spores can live from a while, especially in a moist environment so once it is all cleaned, put a few fans in there to let everything dry off very very good before starting another grow.

I hope that helps.

believe me--it rot---remove all of it now or you will loose whole plant!!!!

it looks like dead plant material that will (if it hasnt already) lead to rot/mold

cut it out of there and carry on , but keep an eye on the rest of the plant

peace

Choppity chop chop! ASAP!:2cents: :peace:

It definitely looks like budrot.

The question is, why? It's the middle of summer.

Is the plant indoor or outdoor?

I have had outdoor plants get budrot in October & November...

If it's indoor, I wonder if you have air conditioning...

What the hell is making the plant's environment cold & damp enough to cause budrot at the end of July?

Was the bud up against another bud or some sort of wall?

It has gotten damp and has not been able to dry out.

Do tell!

First, thanks to everyone for the quick replies, I had a feeling it was rot but really hoped that it wasnt. I lost most of an ak plant earlier in the year but that was put outside right arounf the cold snap we had in may and I chalked it up to that. This plat has been in a "stealth" grow box in my garage. Humidity hasnt been a huge concern this summer as well. I think maybe I was a little sloppy with my watering at times and maybe I need to get a additional fan in the box for better air flow

the reason why is tight buds in 80% rain---aftet 5 ozs this spring and summer so far lost to humidity and constant budrot

Sorry to hear man, thats heart breaking. I just finished cutting up my grow, I am guessing I saved about 70 percent of the plant. I went through each bud under a light to check for rot. basically the two biggest buds had rot right through the middle. one was the size of a tennis ball. I just hope the drying process goes well and I dont loose any more.
