Paranoia or problems with my little ones

Hey bro.

First lights out with the potential fix today and still at work so can’t see if it’s fixed yet. Mrs just about home now so she’s gonna take a photo and send it on. When I open the tent up temps drop right down as basement has an ambient temp of 14c generally. Makes it a pain in the ass to get a minimum reading as it takes it the moment it drops to its lowest while I have the tent opened up! Lights out during the day so always at work.
24-25c is lights on. Hoping lights off will be around 20/21c today. Lights off yesterday had a temp of 16c, or so I think.

Cobs are roughly 90cm away just about 3 feet.

Thanks for the check in bro

Get a max/min thermometer with remote sensor, then you can see temps without opening the tent.

Hey bro, I do have one. Problem is, when I open the tent the tent drops in temp and I generally have to leave for work straight away, so I can’t reset the minimum reading. But.... I was at home today during lights out...16.5c.... my plan hasn’t worked. Just buying a mini 500w oil rad for inside the tent. It’s real small so should fit well

Or use my method, a small fan heater with it's own thermostat control as "forced" heating is more efficient than convection alone. The one I use for heating cost me €6 second hand, and could keep the temps in the room I use absolutely stable even when the area outside the room has no heating whatsoever in winter.

If you do, just make sure it doesn't blow directly on the plants, for obvious reasons.

I do have a small ceramic heater, but very concerned about having it in the tent. Fear of fire is the last thing I want on my mind!
Tents just 2x4 with two 5gal pots, not a whole lot of room. Found a mini 500w rad that’s real small and should fit well. Only $17aud so pretty cheap and a necessary investment it seems.

Hey dude, tent temperature is not really the issue. The thing you need to watch is POT / SOIL temperature. If the soil is at a good temp, the air can be fairly chilly without an issue. Especially true as you're using organics right? Need to keep the soil beasts active.

Have you got some bricks or something? I use two pairs of bricks with a 90cm plastic garden tray across the top forming a sort of bridge. Put your two plant pots in the tray and then stick your bar heater UNDERNEATH the tray/pots. This will keep your soil warm enough without having to waste energy heating the airspace during lights out. Having the 90cm tray between the plants and heat source just reduces the risk of over heating. You want it just slightly warm.

You will have to play around with the temp of the bar heater as you don't want the soil to get too warm, as this will mean too much activity in the soil and possible overfeeding etc.

Hey bro,

Yup, organic. Have my drip trays on 1.5cm tall rubber feet so they’re off the tent floor. I do have a heating mat for seedlings that I could possibly use. Maybe have it on a timer so it comes on during lights off

It’s not so much getting them off the floor mate. It’s getting them high enough so you can get your tube heater underneath. That is a tube heater in the first pic on page one yeah?

Trust me mate it will work a treat. I speak from experience. Warm air rising under the pots will solve your issue for minimal cost. 40w as opposed to a 500w heater.

Ok gotcha. Yup, that’s a 60w heat bar. Sounds like a great idea, may lose a little height but worth it. What do you reckon about the seedling mat, gonna make a difference? Gets pretty warm, but not quite like the bar I suppose. Just nice that it’s flat.

If your tent isn't flame proof, you'll have a problem anyway for none that are flammable should be sold by any reputeable vendor, and any convection rad can still go up in flames whereas your ceramic, provided it's not one of these ridiculous "Handy Heater" things will be safer and more efficient.

Yeah dude I reckon the mat will work nicely. Never used one myself but I think it will be good. Just not sure how much heat they actually give out. It is a pain that you need to raise everything for the heat bar actually. Hmmm, maybe the mat is better! Lol.

Don't worry too much about fires mate. My extinguisher hasn't been used yet and most of the stuff in my tent including the light is DIY'd by someone with very little experience in that department. Me! Electrical fire is the most likely event. Just make sure everything is wired and plugged nicely and don't overload anything. Big light on a separate socket and you're all good dude.
