Pest Control Blackfly or Fungus Gnats? I am puzzled by these creatures but was wondering if there was a sure safe way to get rid of them? I am also curious as to what harm these pests do to the plant in the long term.

I have read all about the yellow stick flytraps around the pot etc & the fancy expensive commercial products (which incidentally don't seem to work) and there is so much conflicting advice out there that the whole issue becomes confusing & mind blowing! My question is:- Is there a reliable and effective way to control blackfly/fungus gnats & what damage do these pests cause? (I know that's two questions) I would greatly appreciate any thoughts on this matter & many thanks in advance.

fungus gnats feed on the roots. I had them for a year but the predatory mites in the soil that came with them kept them in check. I tried lots of stuff. 1/8 th of a mosquito dunk soaking in my water and watering the plants and I never saw them again. Very safe product as well

Warrior,

I have used the mosquito dunks recently, I didn't think they were working. But now after three waterings, they are gone. I just needed a little faith. I also have ordered a product called "gnatrol", because I didn't think the dunks were working. It hasn't arrived yet. Also, putting some dry Diatomaceous Earth on top before watering, so it gets into the soil. When it dries out, the bugs waxy coatings get lacerated and they die. This only works if your medium is allowed to dry out in between waterings. After a few waterings that way, you can go ahead and keep the soil moist again. I haven't tried this with cannabis, but I have use this in my vegetable garden, and it works for most crawlers, and a lot of the flyers.

My two cents

This stuff breaks your dead roots down and seems to take care of fungus gnats as well. I had a bad batch of soil with fungus gnats and ran a bit of a test with it. Works good plus it's great for your plants and soil. Use as directed or maybe a bit less, you can burn your girls with it if you're not careful.

would placing and inch of sand on the top of the soil help?
