PH or CalMag issue?

I've not used Epson salt myself in weed. It makes sense and back in my day of breeding Orchids I use to use it to initiate blooming. It's definitely a inexpensive source of Magnesium.

I was looking last night and the Advanced Nutrients Connoisseur CoCo (PH Perfect) that I'm using and noticed that it already had both Calcium and Magnesium in it. I have been supplementing with additional Cal-Mag and so far haven't had a Cal-Mag issue.
The thing is, is Cal & Mag are 2 separate nutrients. Calcium deficiency exhibits rust spots. Mag def. Exhibits lighter green streaks in the leaf, like Cal def it begins in older leaves and travel upward. When there is a Mag def untreated, you will undoubtedly soon have a Cal def. This is why they bottle it up together. So many people say, "Yeah you need CalMag. The thing is, sometimes you just need an extra boost of Mag. I could be wrong yes but since I've started using Epsom salts at the start of any Mag def, I don't see Cal def anymore. I use AN Micro Grow Bloom. I use roughly 30% coco to 70% promix. I don't see me keeping Epsom salt from my arsenal in the near future.

@Waira needs to set you straight. I'm just a rookie. I've learned so much from Dr. Waira

:toke: BigD'- I'd say this is Mg defc. too, likely plain old lack of,... coco's odd CEC properties extend to Mg as well, just not as strongly as for Ca,... So I think the coco has been hogging it some; no other symptoms showing, so off pH in-pot probably isn't causing any lockout.... Megacrop just started showing up here, so this is the first I've seen it here for use in coco... Moot now that you switched, but I think she just needs extra Mg... Weird that you're getting this so early while using Megacrop, which seems to have a solid amount of Mg in it,....not releasing for some reason..?
OR.... are you doing drain to waste 15-20% run off each time you feed, and checking run-off pH and especially ppm/EC? I'm basically asking if you are familiar with all the do's and don't's of coco use,... So many folks treat coco like true soil, and end up here! One of the common errors is to not do that run-off amount and start to get cumulative salt build-up, which will start to interfere with uptake as well as pH, possible nute burn/toxicities and assocoaited triggered defc's... Your Ca-Mg ppm looks OK, ditto for nutes,...
You can also do a foliar treatments, the fastest was into the plant, and it bypasses any potential issues in the root zone; epsoms (MgSO4) at 1/2tsp/qt in RO/Di water, with some wetting agent too! this help it coat and stick far better,.. get undersides of leaves especially, more stomata located there,...all this makes for more surface area covered = more absorbed,....2-3 times over a week or so..... meantime, see if the nute switch helps maintain levels,.....
A note about AN and other so called sefl-buffering nutes: that action works best in low-to-no ppm/EC water, and only in solution, not in the pot after it goes in,.. monitoring in-pot pH is always wise, so many other influencing factors on pH going on in there!

Thanks for all the responses. I will be picking up some Epsom salts this afternoon. I do have a bottle of Nectar for the Gods line that is a foliage spray. Would it be a good idea to give that a try?

I did a foliar spray mix of 1/4 tsp epson salts and 1/2 liter water and I used Optic Foliar Transport for the wetting agent.

Are the leaves that have the spots supposed to be removed or leave them alone? What is the best way to tell if its working?

@lunarman my plant is still young. I will be leaving the leaves on her until she grows a bit more. I am keeping a close eye on the new growth to make sure it is growing a healthy green color and there’s aren’t any new yellowing spots. If so I will be confident saying the issue is resolved.

OK, I'll do the same. I will take a before picture of the full plant too so I can compare in a couple of days and see what the changes are.

..Lunar, I just got done with your post,.. yours isn't an Mg issue,.... Transport isn't a wetting agent, it's a carrier solution that allows temporary penetration into the leaf through the otherwise impermeable cuticle layer,... using it negates the need for wetting agents though, which is what I think you meant? I love Transport, it kicks ass, and if you want to beat the balls off a defc. issue, especially micronutes, use it with a dedicated micronute supp' like Earth Juice Microblast... check out the Showcase area, I did a review on it a while back :smoking:
leave the leaves alone, removing them does nothing to fix a thing, likely make matters worse in fact,... damage from most defc./toxicity issues doen't reverse, though Mg is one of them that does,.. otherwise you're looking for a halting of progression,...

BigD, did you foliar spray yet?
