Hi so i ph of my water was 6.3 and the runoff was 5.3 so that makes my soil ph 4.3? right? so hi do i bring up the ph i got bot ph up and ph down im just wondering how much do i need to add to my water?

what are you testing with....start with 3-4 drops and check water

i think if your soil ph is indeed that low you will need to add some hydrated lime to your soil just increasing your water ph wont bring it back up that much, hopefully muddy or another experienced grower will be along to further help you

Rough Calculation Guide:
Here's some good info on ph.....
If your runoff pH is higher than your starting pH, use this equation to determine your soil pH:*
Soil pH = Runoff pH + Difference

If your runoff pH is lower than your starting pH, us this equation:
Soil pH = Runoff pH - Difference.

For example, say your the starting pH of your solution before it goes in is 6.5 and the pH of your runoff is 7.0. The difference is +0.5, so using the above equation:
Soil pH = 7.0 + 0.5*
Soil pH = 7.5

If your starting pH is 6.5 and your runoff is 6.0, your difference is -0.5 and using the above equation:
Soil pH = 6.0 - 0.5
Soil pH = 5.5

What are you growing in?
How old is the plant?
What are you using to test Ph?
:D

I am using 3 gal smart pots with 50/50 fox farm ocean and fox farm happy frog i use a oakton ph meter i tested my water before and it was 6.3 and the runoff was 5.3 so that makes my soil 4.3 right. so i made my water 8.5 and water it and the runoff was 5.9 now im totally confused what the hell is the ph now and what do i do?

Fox Farm's Ocean Forest especially tends to run a bit low in Ph from all the amendments. Happy Frog has some stuff in it but not as much. Anyway...

You'll need some dolomite lime. Mix 1Tbsp per gallon(so in your case 3 Tbsp per pot) into the top two inches of soil carefully. Then water a bit higher to pull it up. The lime will take some time to react.(up to a week or more) Hydrated lime works quicker I believe, but doesn't hold as long as dolomite. Both products should be easy to find.

Just feed plain Ph water until you pull it up into range. :D

thanks but how do i go about checking the ph again? i am totally confused by the runoff method after i find out it needs to go up do i water right away or do i wait till next watering?

Wait, don't just keep watering, mate. :D That won't help. And I find that the 'Ph math ratio dealy bob' only works within a certain range. Like with about 2 whole points best, see what I mean. Your first watering and runoff is more accurate IMO. You went to 8.5 sure, but that's not enough to just pull it straight up immediately. Runoff is tricky sometimes, as is growing. Just stick with it and grab up some lime. The Ph game will just start to click one day, I promise. :D

Hmmm.... you may think your confused, you are, but you'll figure it out. :pimp:

Actually an interesting question...I would say wait till next water, adjusting to correct. If after one or two waterings/feedings you are not getting results you may want to take advantage of that last watering and go ahead and flush with ph'd water 3x volume of pot then light feed 1/4 nutes. Lets see what others say.....

:peace:Ouch you made me think
