pH test questions

Per this: https://support.bluelab.com/hc/en-us/articles/203483394-soil-ph-soil-ec-can-these-be-measured- I believe I can use my Blue Lab pH meter to measure soil pH using this method.

Anyone have any experience with this and/or opinions about accuracy?

Also, Blue Lab says "The readings taken with this method will be higher than those taken by other methods." Any idea by how much? I have a an email into Blue Lab but no response yet (will update when I do). Thanks!

I believe that "lab procedure" will yield accurate results but who wants to poke 6" core samples out of their pots? First off If your soil was made properly PH should not be a concern as long as your inputs are correct. That said if you have run amuck an Accurate 8 PH soil probe will be accurate enough if used correctly. Blue Lab makes excellent soil probes as well.

I think this is a translation error on Blue Labs description. I think they mean to say the quality of the reading's accuracy will be better than other methods.

For all practical purposes this is how I've done it since starting with Nectar nutrients. If you have issues, and need to call the shop, first questions they ask will be pH and ppm of slurry test. Has worked for me now for almost 4 years. But I don't go down 6", in the pot sizes we run, that would more than likely do at least a little damage to the roots. An inch or so has worked fine for me.

Here is Blue Lab's response FWIW:

"Yes, you can test the pH in your slurry with the pH pen. If the slurry is performed correctly you should receive the same or close to the same pH that is in the soil. "
