Indoor PH tester calibration liquid.

Hey All,

I didn't really know where to post this question, I hope this is the best forum. Does anyone know of an easy way to prepare a calibration liquid for a PH tester at home? I just bought a really good one for dirt cheap and seeing the calibration fluid costs more than the meter, I was wondering how all you AFN folks might get around buying this liquid.

What are you finding is expensive? 7.0 calibration liquid is around $9 on amazon, unless you have some extra fancy model that uses something else, but should say in the instructions. You usually need the fluid anyway for storage of the unit.

I don't think there's a substitute for calibration fluid. It's not that expensive when you consider its shelf life. The one i bought 4 years ago is still calibrating to 7

I would recommend against using a subsitute becuase it could give you "super freaky" readings (hoho hehe haha) lol
There's a big difference between 5.9 and 6.2 in soil and your plant will know

its just a few bucks and eve me cleaing my bluelab all 2 months and recalibrating it i use my gib bottle ph 7 and ph 4 since 3 yrs and still doing its job.

I didn't know you needed the fluid for storage. I ordered the unit yesterday its being shipped as we speak. I guess it's back to Amazon.

When I got my HDE ph pen, it came with an insert offering their fluid for around $30us + shipping. That was my first ever exposure to it and the price, plus trying to limit incoming deliveries, put it right off my radar. So I looked and found alternatives, but none that beats amazons $2.99+ for a three pack or $10. per bottle. So those alternatives are now deeply archived, probably never to re-surface again. Thanks for the info. Great question, great answers.

I would invest in the storage fluid as well. It really is not expensive when you consider how much you use. Your meter will love you for it!
