I see a lot of posts regarding the "doneness" or ripeness of auto flowers.. I struggle with this also.
On my last auto I never got amber trichomes and the pistils were hard to read since it wasn't very hairy. The smoke turned out to be just okay.

Right now I have an auto that is 9 weeks old from seed. She is a real beauty,, Northern Light from Royal Queen. According to breeder this plant should be finished now or within the next week. Most of the hairs have turned from white to orange which is a good sign, no noticeable new pistils forming, no noticeable changes really, but there are definitely no amber trichiomes. I'm not even sure if I can tell the difference between cloudy and clear. To me they look frost white. According to my research many strains do not produce amber trichomes which would, to me, be the easiest way to judge when your plant is finished.

Do any experienced auto growers have closeups or any more tips?

Thanks for the help as always..

My best advise is if you say your trichombs look frost white then that means that they are cloudy and by you using the term "frost" makes me think they are mostly cloudy so you are getting to the end of the cycle. When you check your plants everyday its hard for you to tell if they are getting any bigger best way I come to beat that is take pictures every week, even though our eyes can't tell, pitures can make a big difference in looking for muturity. The 20% weight gain buds get in the last 2 weeks of its cycle isn't a noticeable one just by looking at the plant but some growers have trained them selves to look for the signs. How are your fan and sugar leaves? If your fan leaves are curling and dying off and your sugar leaves are starting to receed back into the buds along with the hairs then your ready. Keep an eye on the trichombs some don't change that is true but I wouldnt worried about them not changing until week 10-11 if by then they have not changes id say start the flush they should be ready for harvest.

Thanks guys, Here is an idea for product of the year.. Create a pen or paper strips that measures "doneness" :) You'd sell a trillion.. Could maybe be based on acidity of trichomes or something..

I think this one is almost finished for the following reasons... I just started the flush and will likely pull her in a few days,,
Pistils have changed from all white to mostly all orange and also curled up.
Breeders recommendation
No new noticeable growth or changes..
Aroma is incredible and ripe smelling..
Trichomes appear white and sugary.
Fan leaves turning yellow even though my ferts have a decent amount of N in them..

you got about 2-3 more weeks if you can hold out. :Sharing One:
you got alot of green fan leaves still and looks like alot more weight to gain. if you can go 80+ she will pay you back for the extra time.

Awww mann... It's like having to pee really bad :) I want to pull her so bad :) Thx for your input.. I'll give it more time.. Now I have some decent pics and compare in a week..

Nice looking plant ... You can snip a bud if you're out of weed ... :Sharing One:

Updated pics.. Let me know if you think it's time.. Maybe another week..
