Hi there... It's been a very long time since I was last on here. I'm now just over 2 weeks from seed into my grow for Christmas. I'm currently doing 3 x sweet afghani delicious. By sweet seeds. And so far I've encountered a situation that is a slight concern... One seedling is showing spots of yellow/orange on new growth. And upon further inspection last night i discovered two small holes in one leaf. The other two seedlings are looking ace.. It's just this one seedling that concerns me..Ive not even used any nutrients yet so I don't know what's wrong. Doubt it could be light burn as I'm using just 3 x 20w cfls sitting just over and inch above each plant. I'm thinking now it could be a ph problem.. But again I don't know... Any one able to provide a little input on the matter. Thanks

Which medium are you using and what ph are you currently giving the plants?

It looks like a ph issue you may have had, briefly... but by looks of new growth am not seeing anymore signs, so just keep that PH in check and you'll be fine, best of luck to ya! and welcome Back to AFN :pass::welcome::bighug::thumbsup::pop::slap::vibes::karmacloud:

Hi, I've recently discovered a similar problem with my 3 x NL's which I'm currently growing. Upon further research it appears the water in the UK is either too hard or too soft, and this seems to result in Cal/Mag deficiencies, if left unchecked.

So today I've decided to PH test all further water and nutrient feeds, and add some Plant Magic Magne-Cal+ i bought, hopefully this will address it in a few days.

I've also flushed all my plants with PH'd water at 6.5 today.

It doesn't look that bad, so you have a good chance of correcting it, way before it progresses.
Good luck with your grow :smoking:

I totally forgot about this thread...

The soil I'm using is a mix of 70% westlands mp + ji and 30% perlite. I've used the same medium over the years.

The water I have used throughout my grows is always either ashbeck mineral water or deeside. Both from Tesco. I believe both are either 6.2 or 6.5 pH.

And I must point out I've never really played about with adjusting the ph. My grows are always usually a bit novice as I don't use any extraction, filters etc. It's just a tent a light growing medium water and seeds and a tiny amount of nutrients.

One thing that I have used on this grow that I didn't on others is a coiled rope light sitting between two sheets of plywood to act as a heatpad. My 3 pots sit upon this. I only used this for my Germination and 1st week.. I've just continued to use this as the room my tent is in is very cold.

With temperature and water saturation the pH in the substrate fluctuates.

Strictly speaking pH is a simplified way to numerically quantify the H+ ion concentration of a given solution. So whatever affects the [H+] of a given solution, pH of that solution will also experience an inverse change. Now talking of correlation of pH and temperature, since a rise in temperature is associated with increased molecular vibrations, upon increasing the temperature, the observable [H+] also increases due to a decreased tendency of forming Hydrogen bonds, thus leading to a reduction in the pH.
This fact is clearly evident when we measure the pH of water @ 0 deg C we find it to be 7.47, but the same water at 100 deg C will have a pH of 6.14 ! so there a definite correlation of pH and temperature .

Ok, I may nip down to Tesco tomorrow and buy some of this, if PH levels are already within this range. However I guess I'd still need to PH test after adding nutes, and so forth, but it will come in handy anyway.

I didn't understand any of that druid...

After checking on my plants this morning... I'm horrified to see that this one plant is looking worse than it did yesterday.. Im going to put the ph to the side atm and concentrate on what I believe is the plant suffering from heat stress.... It has to be a heat issue more over ph. Or a combination of both.. My instinct had me giving her a slight amount of water followed by a few foilar sprays.. Now the led rope light that I was using has been removed. This thing was generating a fair amount of heat and was a blessing for Germination but I think it's done the 3 week old seedlings a bit of harm... Why did I think this would be a good idea of keeping my tent warm. When the 200w Dual spectrum CFL should be producing ample heat anyway.

One thing I'd like to be made aware of is if my light is too close to the plants.

I hope this one plant recovers soon. I've never had this issue over the years with any other grow. I'm so frustrated especially when I can't start again as I'm hoping these autos will serve me up a nice Smoke for when santa comes.
