New Grower Possible to use an LED in a tent in a closet without cutting holes in the walls for ventilation?

Hi guys,

Back in the day when I started planning out my first grow I was using HID lights and so I ruled out my closet because there would be no way to get enough ventilation in there for a 400 HPS light...

However, with an LED, I don't know that it would be such a big deal...?

[highlight]Could I put a grow tent in my closet and keep the closet closed if using an LED?

Or how would you suggest making use of a closet, preferably without cutting holes?[/highlight]

Depends on the led. I ran a solar storm 400 and a blackstar 240uv in a 6 x 1.5 closet with no ventilation and temps got up to high 90s. With just the Ss400 they were still in high 80s. I ended up cutting an 8" hole in the floor and venting. Now I'm about to put in 2 400w hps and take out LEDs because the 8" fan was overkill and I want to maximize my yield.

What type of led in what space closet do you want to use?

Is the only issue temperature?

The LED's I have used don't raise the temp almost at all (MAYBE 1-2 degrees). The only problems I have had with them, is them light frying the shit out of my plants if they are within 2 feet :X...

I have two Tao Tronics models:

The bigger square one
The smaller UFO

My closet is 7 feet in height, 3.5 feet from left to right, and it's 2 feet and 1 inch deep.

I have a tent that would fit in there, with about 2.5 feet of empty closet above it, and 2 feet of empty closet beside it.

With an LED in a tent in my closet, if I vent the tent out the top into the closet, would that be OK ventilation wise? Temperature wise it should be no biggie I don't think... but maybe low ventilation means higher temps...

Low ventilation does mean higher temps. You might be ok if you vent out of your tent into the closet AND let the closet door open. You will have all the smell go into your house then so a carbon filter would be a good idea.
You should always have some type of ventilation unless you supplement with Co2.

Thanks for all the info! I def carbon filter anything coming out of the tent.

I couldn't really find much info on where to cut holes, so maybe that is why it is intimidating.

I may try just slapping the tent in a closet with a door open like you said, and keep a monitor in it to see how it does.

I've got 2 ms004's in a small cabinet with my extraction inbetween the 2 led's at the top, when both are on and I turn the extraction fan off the cab. will raise in temp. 10c at pot height. my cabinet is only 1.3 metres high so a bit low, what would worry me is the temperature at the top where the led's are trying to keep themselves cool?

I'd say you do need to extract the heat out some how, even with cool running led

I had the same worries when setting up my grow. Iv got a tent that fits very snug (probably 15mm space on all sides) into one side of a built in wardrobe, Iv got my extract fan inside the tent sucking air out and into a carbon filter thats located above my tent, temps never get above 80, they tend to stay around 76/77. The only problem Iv had is high humidity, so Iv put a small dehumidifier inside the tent and added a small fan to keep some air flowing around my buds. Oh ye I'm running a Grow Northern MS0006 on a 20/4 light schedule

I think you might be right... I was thinking of maybe also running a fan or 2 in the actual closet, but I dunno. It's still a half baked idea at best.

Thanks for the reply man! So your carbon filter is in the wardrobe but outside the tent? And that seems to do OK?

I have to use a small dehumidifier already to keep it under 50 during flower, but I think I could get a bigger one...

Ye the carbon filter does fine outside the tent, just make sure your fans blowing the right way round. Iv got 2 AutoMazar that are close to finishing and they stink to high heaven when I open the tent up but when it's closed you can't smell a thing. I think I need a bigger dehumidifier, the RH gets to just below 50% and then I need to feed my plants so it shoots back up to 65ish, that's the only problem Iv encountered so far though

I run two Advanced LED lights totaling 220 watts in a closet ... raises the temps about 5 degrees F. w/ door open or 10 degrees F. w/ the door closed ... I tried a 368 watt Advanced LED and it raised temps a good 10 degrees w/ door wide open ... I would do w/o the tent cause that just seems like it would complicate things ... I like Blue Mystic due to low/no odor ...
