Was wondering what other thought about bending main branches that have become to tall for growing space. For some reason the royal queen critical autos and royal dwarf are all pushing 90-100 cm this go round. Now i have no space to spread them out and tie them down nor any more space to raise lighting.I tried to tie one down only to have it snap. Not break off.I noticed within a few hour it turned towards the light and seem to be growing fine.So i done the same to 5 more. Will this hurt.I have seen this done before by nature and man. They always seem to have done fine after. Now i only did to plants that have minimal flowers.Any that have distinct buds i let alone

Hello Midman,

You know I have a bud that had been bent to far till it snapped over but not broke, was about two weeks ago, and it is fine and the bend has strengthened. I hoisted the bud back up into position, and it is fine now. That being said, I don't know if it will help, other than being able stay under the light? My stretch was too long, so I got to keep them lower than they want to be. However I have learned my lesson on the stretch.

Eek

My light fell on one of my girls and bent over four or five branches.I just straighten them out and put a micro clamp to hold them im place, and after three days I take them off and the branchesq are just fine. They seem to fix the damage and heel themselves like majic.

I'm thinking of bending my main stem as one of my twins has stretched a good 6 inches higher then the other... She is now about 4 inches from the LED but doesn't seem damaged in anyway.... Am i just being over protective and should let it be??

Bending is okay , breaking not! use some material that doesnt cut into the plant and bend the plant over a couple of day!
In case of breaking put duck-tape around the plant!

Just don't try and bend it all at once. Bend it until you feel resistance, then come back the next day and tighten it up a bit more. It may take 3-4 days until it will bend to a horizontal position.

Is it a case of 'if it don't look damaged or hurt at that distance to leave to be?' I wouldnt want to strain or stress the plant in anyway unless it was essential :)

What wattage LED are you using ? I have a 275W unit and at that distance it would toast the leaves fairly quick, I have mine at 18 inches with my flowering plants and it seems to work well, as your plants are ok it must be ok at that distance, light bleaching is fairly unmistakeable, it looks as you would expect bleaching to look like, if you get that on the leaves nearest the light move it up a bit.
A few weeks back one of my plants was about 8 inches taller than the rest which made keeping the light a correct distance away near impossible so I gently bent the top over by about 2 or 3 inches using some thick, soft wool and tied it off, the next day I pulled it over a few more inches until it was roughly the same height as the rest.
Its easy to tell by feel if you are pulling too hard and in danger of snapping something.
Interestingly after another week or so, the other plants had a growth spurt overtaking the one Id bent over, by now it had completely reshaped itself with all the side branches forming like the original central cola and was now about 8 inches shorter than the others.
D'oh !
I untied it and as expected it stayed in the position in which Id tied it. Double D'oh !
However after only a few more days it straightened up, realigning itself normally but with the advantage that all the side branches on one side are thick and full like the central cola.
Woohoo.
Sorry, waffling, good grass.
Should add one more thing, forgive me if I appear to be insulting your intelligence but you say you want to bend one of the main stems, you don't actually mean the stem do you ?
You need to attach your rope, wool etc to the very top of the plant where it is most flexible, the main stem will not bend without breaking if its a mature plant, if its still small, the same rule applies, bend from the top, again, sorry if Im stating the obvious.
