1984 was published in 1949 by Gorge Orwell .It was a purely fictional book about what he predicted the world would be like in 1984.I was 4 years old and really didn't understand what it was about until I got a little older then I just blew it off as just another fiction book. Well 1984 came around and guess what happened,NOTHING. Just like the when people were afraid the world was going to end because the Myan calendar stopped around 2012.Well I guess that never happened either.Life is like the internet so don't believe anything you here and only half of what you see.So smoke up every one and enjoy our marvelous plant and try and enjoy life as it is,or what you make it.

1984 was not a prediction, it was a book about what happens when you give governments too much power, because they never have enough. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. 1984 is creeping up on the USA, And thats how its done most successfully, with little bits of freedom snipped away " for the good of the people". believe or not as you may. poopoo the idea. its your children, and your grandchildren that are going to suffer from the apathy of the masses. Thomas Jefferson stated: Love your country but never trust your government. We need massive government reform, or revolt. It will come down to one or the other one day.

Yep and I got a bridge I'll sell you cheap too....lol!

lol, so it's true an American bought London bridge thinking it was Tower bridge :-)
Supprised China or Japan have not bought tower, I must be famous out there with my photo bombings :-)

When Orwell , (thanks Ronin) wrote 1984, he was doing what many good SciFi wrtiers do, envisioned what the societal ramifications could be with emerging technologies and human nature.

Humanity had already shown the behaviors he was writing about in various locations to various degrees, GO simply added the technological aspects.

The eternal questions in the book.
What is Utopia?
Can it be achieved in worldwide?
What will humanity sacrifice to achieve that lofty goal.
And when does one persons Utopia become another's Dystopia?

There are many more, but I haven't read it in over 30 years so.

AH,
You are correct Ronin
I was seeing Bradbury in my head when thinking of Orwell.
Old fart moments.
I hate that.

Orwell wrote 1984.
Bradbury wrote Fahrenheit 451.

And, unless I'm mistaken, 451º is the temperature at which paper (as in books) self ignites. :)

Both great books by very good writers.
I think F451 used to be on the mandatory reading list in middle or high school in the US.

It's all good.:Sharing One:
I call it selective memory.

Unfortunately, it appears that all these novels/movies (Fahrenheit 451, Soylent Green, Brave New World,Minority Report, 1984) have now become a blueprint for those in charge.

Like Mugatu says..
