Extraction QWET question about alcohol evaporation... Just to be safe.

So I have my alcohol and bud in the freezer. I am ready to start the wash, but I had a question about the evaporation afterward. Is it crucial to evaporate all the alcohol off? Can I leave it as a really strong tincture and just dump it in a cookie recipe and let the alcohol evaporate in the oven? I can leave it out to evaporate, but I have nothing to heat it on except a stove and that kinda makes me nervous.

Gas or electric? Had no idea what QWET was but a quick search did the trick. What I read said they did the heating of the tincture in a oil bath in a fondue cooker. Not sure I'd try with a gas stove but an oversized pan of oil on a small hotplate outside might bean option...but I know nothing about it so attempt at own risk.

Highly flammable! The safest way is to let it evaporate naturally. I have a still which allows me to recover the alcohol. A lot of people use a rice cooker or crockpot. I am personally not recommending this but it should be done outside.

Sorry for the late reply. It is an electric. I went ahead and just air evaporated for about 36 hours. Nice thin clear layer that was a beautiful dark amber when scraped together. Now its a black chunk sitting in my freezer til I have the time to do a few more runs. Then making some extremely potent brownies.

Yes natural evap safest in ventilation area...all great things come in time!!!

Extracting clean herb oil, doesn’t matter CBD or THC genetic home grown plants or purchased herb...

After my sub-chilled -60f yes “minus 60f” Ethanol soak in a food cooler using dry ice, herb & ethanol.
(I use generic Everclear),

I strain 1st thru a “CLEAN“ 75u micron bubble bag (which is pre-chilled in freezer because I want anything the cold herb touches chilled) right into a glass cooking bowl or Pyrex dish, it is Extremely Fast (size obviously depends on Ethanol fluid qty !)
I “very gently” shake
bubble bag 2-3x & “immediately“
remove away (DO NOT SQUEEZE IT),
you want ALL non cannabinoid
bi products (Fatty acids, wax, chlorophyl, etc. to stay in the herb...) CRITICAL STEP ABOVE-60f & fast strain...
***Next I strain thru a 25u micron “CLEAN“ bubble bag to get final gold ethanol wash product.
(I will not waste my time using Trim, only Flower gently broken up). There may be some plant matter particles from the 75u straining, but not many & the 25u straining collects them & the liquid strains MUCH faster than using a brown non bleached coffee filter rated also @ 25u

(But they both work). Silk screen works as well, but bubble bags are easier.

Once the gold cannabinoid ethanol liquid is strained the “pressure is off”, impurities have been left behind. now time for ethanol evaporation

I just let the herb and ethanol in separate mason jars chill for about 3 hrs. in the cooler with the dry ice above it.

This is a time consuming, but rewarding process. You want NO friends, no smokers, no pets,

NO CHILDREN, etc etc when doing this...& put yourself in 1st gear !!! It’s work & will take 1/2 a day or more...
So, my -60f extraction “IS MY
PURIFICATION“ & then onto evaporation ( Ethanol removal).
I‘m removing approximately 30-32% percent of
“all
undesireables“.
using this technique.

((what I’m saying here, is if u soak one Oz of med to good herb at “room” temperature in about 13 Oz of Ethanol, I use generic Everclear, u will get about

6 1/2 to 7 grams of herb oil on average,
“BUT” if u use the SAME herb & SAME volume of Ethanol
at -60f degrees with same soak times u will get about 4-4.5 grams herb oil...!

Well why so much less u ask at extreme cold extraction temperature ???

Well, very simply put you have kept almost the same rate of cannabinoid extraction the same, “BUT” have slowed down the pick up extraction of undesirables fats, lipids, waxes, chlorophyll, etc to
a “CRAWL”, in other words 25-33% less undesirables are in your extract & you have very pure & clean oil for vaping... simple !!!)

My final oil yld per Oz of herb good quality herb 18-22%Thc averages 4.1Gr. about 14.1% yield per Oz.
(2 1/2 to 3 Gr of impurities
“undesirables” stay out of the final product.

This is the wonderful aspect of “super chilled Ethanol extraction”—No Winterization Needed to remove Lipids, Fats, Waxes, Chlorophyl, etc etc.

Fact not opinion...

It will C cell vape pure, but I do have some with a suspending agent in it Puffmajic or
Wax Liquidizer, both contain PG & PEG.
I mix @ ratios of 1:5
(1 part mix to 5 part Honey oil), obviously u can mix more, but potency decreases as well as flavor. I don’t mind using these occasionally because my Vape pin voltage is set @ 3.7V,
vape temp. stays below the 430f carcinogenic phase of PEG.
Which is by all practical matters still very low VS ignition (flame) 900-1200f of dry herb...tar & carcinogenic.
Also, I’d recommend a trial run of 1-2 Oz herb to get the engineering down—cooler size, jar size, dryice qty, Ethanol qty, metal screen to fit in cooler that holds dry ice sized properly so it subliminates 110f gas down to herb (dryice gas is heavier than air so it sinks).
I just use those cheap metal grill screens for fish etc grilling.
& mason jars for herb & ethanol one for each til mixed at -60f, a support table top next to cooler for putting stuff on. “You want all your Ducks lined up in a row”.

Because once u mix it’s “game on”until u see that gold liquid.

((I use the Lg Qrt size Mason jars (2), about 7-8 Lbs dryice critical ,

2 Oz herb, & 26 ozs of generic Everclear.

Lg liquor store has 1.75 liter for $29.90 in MO.

So, Ethanol removal is time consuming, but it is foodgrade so very very little impurities.
FDA allows 0.5 ppm in food...

I use several ethanol evaporation techniques
(again NO open flame, NO children, NO friends around & NO NO smoking, etc this is work not play time)

Turn table top fan on to gently blow over double boiler as follows & open window, I heat a water bath in lg metal baking dish & turn flame off, place glass Pyrex dish in it with wash @ 155f or so & stir with Silicon stir spatula until only 2oz fluid left takes several hrs., then I transfer that to a clean glass small 2” Penzi spice jar to finish evaporation of ethanol ...u may need to add a drop or two of Ethanol to get all the oily liquid mixed & transferred from your Pyrex or glass dish.(buy a set of Silicon stir spatulas diff size, they are your best friends)

***Now the fun begins “Complete Ethanol Removal”
place the 2” jar on a coffee plate warmer, coffee machine warmer, etc to keep heated & stir with a toothpick until “NO” bubbles appear (process: stir walk away-stir walk away- again & again... until when u think your done 1–1 1/2 hrs later u still see little teeny micro bubbles these r the residual water not alcohol ...& it takes time to remove it 100%...

I don’t like going over 155f, that’s why I use a coffee warmer

(recommend buying a thermostat controlled hot plate & infrared thermometer)
***Now with all that said I’ve recently used a friends large electric skillet about 12x16” or so & it works great...put on table in secured area outside if possible & aim fan over it, Yes still use fan over it on low to remove fumes & increase ethanol evaporation!!!

Adjust temperature & check with thermometer & repeat process above...I’ll just place the Pyrex dish with the ethanol wash in it right on top of the skillet

(Penzi spices r good, but u can buy those little thick glass
2”x2” jars online, see picture.) They are the right size to work with & to extract heated oil with plastic needless Syringe for C cell vape cart filling...I use a chip bag clamp as a C cell vape cart holder while filling.

***Note— Can’t stress enough get all micro bubbles out & u really have to get right down to the jar to see them...!!! IT TAKES TIME, ITS WORK!

Also, u can simply put the wash in a large glass Pyrex dish 12” -17” size for quicker ethanol evaporation

(I buy about everything from Goodwill or Walmart)
& place outside in the Sun in secure area & let it be, run out of daylight no problem just put it back out next day... the little bit of Sun exposure is not going to have any high impact on THC / CBD degradation according to my research.

Natural evaporation, just stir it now & then with your silicone stir spatula...! Until you put it in the 2” jar & final bubble removal process above.

Well I’ve done all the evap processes above & all work, but I like the lg electric plate the best...using the fan & thermostat outside of home.

Doesn’t matter what genetic herb plants your using CBD or THC,
impurities are still removed.
