Mephisto Genetics Raoul-Duke turns Meph Head - New Artisinals

I have seen people using Promix with root aphids. Check your medium for bugs. Not saying that's what's wrong, but My solution...ditch the Promix next grow. Go buy some Char Coir Coco and thank me later.
Unfortunately promix is much easier to come by than any coco where I'm at and shipping to Canada is sometimes more expensive than the item you're shipping. I've also got a whole bag still left over so I can't really toss it yet, and I'm also not completely ready to give up on it yet; seen many good grows with it, but I'm definitely interested in trying coco some day. Pretty sure the promix doesn't have bugs either as I've done a few grows with it already and I had only had one small bug problem that I think was my fault. Haven't seen any bugs since. Plants look really healthy too, I'd expect discoloration in the leaves, they're just a little small.

Could be wrong though.

Fafard makes a good soil, and so does Dr. Earth, and Black Gold (NPK: .05-0-0)

But if you have a garage, or back yard, you can make your own way better, and it only takes a couple months to plan ahead and mix it all together and let it steep.

Good suggestions. Definitely looking at mixing my own soil one day when I have the space. Thanks bud.

I use that Fafard every year, and mix it half and half with my own compost and native soil. It needs to sit for a month or two after mixing to get the bio-life going fully. It is perfect for what I'm doing, mostly tree grafts and cloning. If I didn't have my compost I would get earth worm castings and vermiculite to raise the CEC for weed. I use my native garden soil because it's already inoculated with mycos and other beneficials, but it takes some steeping time for them to eat the compost and grow.

Had bugs once? You still have them most likely.

I suppose it's possible. I figure I'd have seen em in my tent by now though. Did a thorough cleaning of the tent and pots etc. before setting up shop again after finding the bugs.

I have had fungus gnats with coco in autopots with airdomes. As in larvae and adults flying around. I was thinking of switching to HP mix next more because coco and PH gave me issues first time, but now I think I have a handle on PH and coco and will stick with it and learn to perfect it more. I don't want to keep switching mediums after one grow and not learn to work with something for a while.

And I think I have a handle on the bugs. Going to blend in crushed up mosquito dunks in to my coco right from the start of each potting along with calmag etc. Or maybe use DE instead.
Coco didn't give you issues with pH. Flying fungus gnats is your problem. Until you are 100% bug free, you will have issues. Fungus gnats will cause all kinds of issues, including Plants looking like pH problem. I noticed you use a pH probe for Coco? Useless information that will make your problems worse by trying to compensate for numbers that are inaccurate. Worry more about your pH going in, Remo runs higher pH 6.4 in Coco

Which is why I suspect Root Aphids. I told another member for months to check his medium for Root Aphids. He was in denial for months. Finally he checked. I was right. And he uses Promix BX. Just making you aware. You can get bugs from many sources. Just be mindful that if you had bugs once, they could be in your medium or some strays can linger around and remultiple. Anyone who has had bugs and develope problems repeatedly, most likely still has bugs

Right on, noted. Like I said, I've only noticed them one time. I'll do a little more research on this though. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. :pass:

If it is root aphids, I have been wanting to experiment with alternate methods of dealing with soil born pests. I have read that a Spinosad or NEEM drench will get them. No idea if it will work, but both kill gnats and aphids on contact and I don't expect it should change soil properties. I would think you would have damping off or wilting by now if you had aphids though. Root aphids leave a powdery honeydew build up that is visible above and throughout the soil.

edit: one that kills em for damn sure is parasitic nematodes. Beneficial bugs that eat pretty much any other bug under the soil. I knocked out much worse than bugs than aphids with it, peach tree borers.
