Update. Day 2, of the 100 or so 14 year old seed a few did crack on day one, but now day two there is no additional development. In my own laymans terms it seems that the seed is sort of viable, but at the same time the embryonic "food" (egg white) has depleted for what ever reason.
Also I noted that the sprout I can see is not clean and white, but rather a bit dirty looking. See attached pic.
At this point without some chemical genius to help, I'll call it quits on these. Frankly I'm surprised that any cracked at all considering the storage method which if you can believe it or not (and I don't hardly believe it myself) those seed sat in a hollow stump covered with a layer of leaves for 14 years,(in a bottle of course) and still cracked. Imagine the temperature swings outdoors for 14 years...
PS, wish I knew a chemical genius. I still have hundreds more.
