I'm on my third grow with the Think Different strain and have been facing temperature issues with the start of summer around the corner. My grow tent is 32" by 32"' in about a 4' by 4' closet. I have an attic crawl space that I exhaust air to and I also have an outtake fan within the tent.

The main problem I'm facing is that temperatures can get above 85 degrees at some points during the day. As the lights are putting off the most heat, would I be better off shortening the light cycle from 20/4 to 18/6 (or even 16/8) or just deal with temperatures that get to the high 80s?

Thanks for any feedback!

Can you tell us what type of light?

Hey cool...are you turning the lights off during the hottest part of the day..??? You could try removing a couple of cfls or run the cfls on the shorter light cycle..:coffee2:

Hi Duggy, thanks for the reply! Yes, the lights are off from about 12-4. The heat seems to linger around till about 6 though. I haven't tried having the CFLs off for a bit longer. I guess less light is probably better than no light though eh :smoke:? I'll give it a shot and see what happens.

cutting off a couple cfl should drop it a few degrees,not like there doin a whole lot anyways like u said though some light better than none

The most up-to-date, proper botanical book i have says that cannabis can thrive up to 35C (95F).

I've grown Afghan Kush Ryder in 35C heat in a growbox in a tiny flat (apartment) and it was totally fine.

We can worry too much about the environment and become too exacting but plants are hardy, they were here before us and they've seen it all.

But i know what it's like ;+}

All the best,

steely

I agree to some extent but with some of my previous grows, I've seen a negative impact with the final yield (Lowryder #2 grown mostly at 90 degrees) at higher temperatures. Obviously, different strains tolerate temperature differently but my buds came out more elongated and airy with a diminished yield compared to a similar grow in the cooler months.

Additionally, I have a DWC setup so a higher temperature will lead to more algae production and lower oxygen levels for the roots.

you lose yield either way , but the higher temps dont just contribute to lower yield , they also make for airy headache weed , id sacrifice light hours and a bit of yield over a bit of yield as well as quality any day

peace
