Is it possible to replace the carbon in a filter? Would much rather replace the carbon than spend 60$ for a new one. Ask this because idk how i would discretely dispose of the old can. Anyone have any experiance with replacing there carbon themselves?

Some carbon filters such as the rhinos i know for sure you can replace the carbon and they sell it on ebay and things. Others like mine are not designed to be refilled however if your willing to drill some rivets out i cant see why you can't replace the carbon in any filter

If odor is an issue at all (you're using a carbon filter), then don't skimp. Don't be silly, the $60 pays for itself in one time of not getting caught alone. Get caught, lose every dime you have because no matter what, you're growing, if they find a ziplock bag or any container or a scale, you're distributing. $60 is chump change when that happens.

If you do plan on replacing your carbon make sure to do your homework. Pelleted coco carbon is what is used in can filters, but if you used that in a phresh filter it wouldn't do a thing. Phresh uses mined carbon from OZ. The size of the filter and the flow it's rated for has more to do with the carbon in it than anything else. I plan on trying to refill my can 2600 with stronger carbon than they use out of the factory, but it's been running a year and hasn't failed me yet. Also, I think the term machine packed is hooey. I can get it packed way tighter by vibrating it and packing with a broom handle than how it comes out of the factory. Most filters I buy are a little loose and it pisses me off to no end that brand name companies don't put in the extra effort and quality control.

I used to build my own filters and may have to do a tutorial at some point. Saves on cash in the long run but I need to figure out how to clean the carbon of dust first.

Drain the carbon, cut it up and smash it.. other than the top and bottom they're pretty flimsy..

You know, think about it though - when you get the filter, can you hear the carbon move? I can't.. do you really think you'll be able to repack it that tight? They have industrial grade shakers... Just my :2cents:
