New Grower Regarding the sticky--Beware Ocean forest

Good deal trap thanks. So am I right in assuming that you've been getting pretty similar readings from the accurate 8 as you do with the slurry?

I got discordant numbers with the first one, got them to send a new one, got spot on numbers with that one (along with run-off calculations) and haven't done a slurry test since. Validated the probe's accuracy and now trust it.

Awesome. Sounds like a good way to double check my run off calculations. I've got 2 diff soil probs that simply refuse to give accurate readings. Both of em are cheap and I didn't expect em to work well anyways. I really should just give in and buy an Accurate 8. I'm just stubborn.
Thanks Trap

Yeah, there's just something inherently offensive about paying $57 bucks for $4.50 worth of labor and materials...but I relented and I'm glad I did.

Exactly. $20 Less and I wouldn't need to talk myself into it. Lol. However you get what a pay for. Quality over quantity and such.

It's not even quality of the instrument itself...plastic...it's the quality of the information it provides....:)

That is only an estimate based on the information given but has proven to be relatively accurate over many grows we've witnessed here.

I'm sorry, but there's a fly in the ointment, Muddy, Trapper, anyone.

You apply 6.5 water. The runoff is 5.8. This suggests the soil is 5.8 or by extrapolation 5.1? Cause I'm hearing both interpretations. When we probe with the Accurate 8 which number are we looking for for verification? If it says 5.8 we assume we need a new probe because it should say 5.1?

Drum roll.

OceanForest straight runoff=5.2
slurry=6.0
slurry water with soil filtered out=6.4

Man PH is the only thing that worries me but I can't afford 60 bucks for a pen. I'm using FFOF for my first grow but I'm pretty sure my tap water is like 7.5-8.0 ph. I know my grow more nutes will drop it down a full point at the least so I just figure I'll be okay and am trying not to stress about it lol. The soil also hasn't burned my seedlings and I did my first 1/4 feed today (day 11).
