I like to have variety in my stash. :jointman:

So as time goes by when I find outstanding weed I buy a bit extra and store them in amber jars.

Deciding I wanted some especially trippy Blue Kush that I bought 4-6 months ago, I opened the jar and the buds felt spongy. Not exactly wet, more like oily. Hard to deconstruct. It smells a bit stale, not quite at the ammonia stage but still OK.

I vaped some last night and it was still very potent :-)

But I needed to stop it from degrading any further, so I recharged a container of silica gel, put the buds in a paper envelope and put it in overnight.

They came out only slightly too dry so I jarred them. Checking later they had the proper aroma.

I decided to check my collection of store-bought bud and 3 more strains were in similar condition so I repeated the procedure fr each, being more careful of the time.

I just had some of the Durban and it is fine- maybe a little harsh but still tasty and strong. I put a little nug of organic Bubba aside for tonight. It smells better too, so hopefully it has kept it's magic. The Purple Urkle was a bit farther gone, I'll have to taste it another day but there's a chance it goes into a topical.

This has never happened to my homegrown.

Some of these guys must be in a hurry to get it to market and don't dry/cure properly. Too bad, really, with a bit of time they could make excellent weed even better!

Lesson learned.
If I want to save some store bought, I will have to burp and inspect it from now on.

Same experience here, and unfortunately, you hit the nail on the head about "rushed to market". As quantity goes up, quality goes down. It's a sad fact, in my experience, that true cannabis connoisseurs are few and far between (except for forums, like this). The average toker doesn't know the difference, and so the growers of store bought weed have no incentive to do things better.
Regards, Kyle

Out of a collection of ~12 strains 4 were spongy, so I would say probably most producers are doing it right and some are rushing.

The ones I buy that don't make my criteria for outstanding are still good weed, but because I don't stash it away for months I don't know if they are too wet.

The organic Bubba didn't taste great but was very potent. In fact I didn't finish the bowl. I woke up at 3AM on the couch with the TV on- but I don't remember turning the TV on.

VitaMan:

I suggest (and use) inexpensive hygrometers that I get on ebay; put one in with your buds and it is easy to see if they are too wet. Then for longer term storage I use Boveda 62% humidity packs. This is still a little humid for smoking and maybe you would want to go with the 58% packs. I only make rosin for edibles (I don't smoke anything) so the 62% is just right for me.

Thanks Man'O.
That's what I have in my mason jars (the hygrometers). These little amber jars are just big enough for 1/8 to 1/4.

I have Boveda 62% and find them too wet. They maintain 62 and lend moisture well and I have found they are not good at absorbing too much water. I also suspect they changed the taste of 2oz of Pink Kush.

I haven't been able to find the 58% around here yet.

Ive been using vacuum sealer with canisters
..you can open and re-seal as often as you want
Thanks Cloud

I vacuum seal my mason jars, but these little amber jars won't work that way.
I will have to keep an eye on any new bud I decide to stash.

I just ordered a the 58% Bovidas from scamazon, today. I've never used them, or felt need for them in the past, but it so insanely dry where I am now, I figured I'd give it a go. Can you elaborate on the taste changing? I've read that in just a couple of other places. I don't mind a slight flavor change, but I'd hate to kill the flavor of primo bud. I had hoped these would fix a potential problem, not introduce another one...
