Grow Mediums Reservoir on the rocks: Keeping your H20 cool

Before getting the chiller I was dumping multiple 1L frozen water bottles straight into my small RDWC system brain bucket (total of 5x 20L buckets). It worked, but I had to swithc the bottles twice a day since they melted really quick, and just knocked the temps down about 2 or 3ºC max.

The best DIY way i found and it is working is to buy the cheapest cooler or an igloo one cut a hole on the lid and with one 2L bottle you keep the water under 20c in one 33c room for over 15 hours.
Also If you want to go out for a day or 2(not luckily to happen with DWC grows) get a 12v car cooler with the cooling system at sides(not in the lid)so you can cut the lid, place the net pot and you are done for the rest of the grow, also the lid been stable and open side ways help to refill and top up or checking the PH/EC.

But personaly I can say that, Single DWC with a cooler is the way to go just get a a 30L to have room for the bottle and you roots without harm them.

Has anybody tried cooling down water with a Peltier Cell?
I am building a new micro grow box, but really micro, the cube faces are 30cm, and as I am using an ultrasonic fogger in a very small water tank, where the temperature goes above 30° when in action.
As the space is so limited and I want my box to be as automatic as possible I am considering a Peltier cell. Anybody tried this before?

Kubus, I am looking into Peltier Cells right now as I've never heard of them.

BaMbA, I was thinking about a cooler for my next bubbleponic setup; it just makes sense.

And it is easy to test before hand how it ll work in your environment. Place the cooler in your room, same amount of water in your dwc and the cooler, 1 bottle each and combare after 10 hours. After a first buckt change most luckily.

Pelrtier cell hypothetically and in some post I have read works with small containers especially if you somehow place it to touch the water and not just the bucket. Maybe make an opening that you ll place it in and somehow avoid the leaking, better to just add icepads and just to be sure they ll not leak anything in the bucket place them in an air tight bag.

If possible always try to use a inline pump as opposed to submersible pump to cut down on heat exchange in res. Wrapping res in aluminum tape cuts down on absorbed heat from lights and it cleans easily. Directing intake air over top of res may help too. Just a few things that have helped me. Happy Growing

I've taken orzarka 1 gal water bottles froze them then just put n my epi center keeping it @ r below 22C sometimes when I'm @ work gets to about 25 26 C

same here but If you use a cooler it keeps them under 23c for over 15 hours
