Hi all,

I had some trouble uploading my own pics so below are the links to the exact products I bought a few months ago. Just recently the water that came out of the RO system tested at 990 PPM which I didn't even think was possible. No, I had not added any nutes to the water. I tested the tap water and it was at around 260 ppm and has always tested similar. I did go the cheaper route with this meter and with this RO system so maybe that is my problem? Just looking for some insight from anybody willing to help a brother out. Very frustrating not having equipment that is dependable and consistent. This RO system only gives me 4-5 gallons at a time and takes forever to fill up. Does anybody have any suggestions on RO systems that produce pure water quickly that aren't thousands of dollars and also a solid reliable meter. Has anybody ever experienced anything similar to what I have?

There are two water outputs from RO systems, the purified water and the waste water. With ppm that high, are you sure you weren't testing the waste water? It will read very high since it's concentrated after removing everything from the water. I have a very similar RO system and when the filters are new the ppm is around 5. After a year of filtering about 100 gallons a week it's now reading about 45, so time to change the filters.

On that meter I see it uses a screw for calibration. As a double check you may want to purchase a small bottle of pH 7.0 calibration solution that is commonly used with meters that have glass electrodes. Since it is know to have an exact pH you can stick your probe into it and adjust your meter as needed.

My $75 RO unit makes about 40 gallons a day ( its rated 50GPD so close enough ). I use a lot of water when running DWC. I fill a 23 gallon tote and a bucket or two, takes a little over a day, fast enough for me. I've run about 250 gallons of RO water now and ppms are starting to rise. I'll change them soon. Also, I'm going to place a whole-house carbon filter inline before the RO unit. It will make the RO units cartridges last a lot longer. The cartridges for the whole house unit are cheaper and last a long time when used this way. O agree with Muddy, sounds like your measuring the output of the waste water line. On mone, black is waste, blue is RO water. Check your manual to be sure

I have the waste water line connected to the drain. The RO water goes into the white storage tank that holds around 4 gallons of RO water. The tank is connected to a faucet that comes with the kit and you turn on your faucet to dispense whatever is stored in the tank. Once the tank is empty you have to wait for it to refill again and it usually takes at least an hour. The unit is only 3 months old so I wouldnt think I need to change the filters alreadym I do have calibration solution and calibrated it to the proper settings so at this point it really boggles my mind. The PH has a glass electrode but the ppm looks to have to black electrodes that are not glass. Maybe plastic with metal on the inside but im not sure. Im going to bring some of the water up to local grow shop to see what their meter reads. I do appreciate the help.
