One foot is kidda close to me. If you see leaves are gaining more than main stem can, you probably put the light too close. I like 16 to 18 inches for young seedlings. 18 to 23 inches in veg stage. Depends on your brand light too.

I'd put them 18-20 inch away in veg as from what I've seen if the light is too close u end up with small plants

I don't have the 300 w but I have the 600 w old version. Good brand so far for me. I guess you can play with your light like I do. moving it up and down by one inch and see how it responds.
