I would like some input from as many growers as possible on this one: How many seeds that you attempt to germinate actually grow through to successful harvest?

Would anyone be brave enough to throw out a ratio? For example, for every 20 seeds, approx. X# of plants live through to harvest...

Thanks!

well, provided the plants that don't live do so because of either not germinating or stalling out, Id say about 90% average for me. I just had one epic fail where I lost like 25 seeds because it got too cold in my back room and I had to use the heating pad for my back.

When I have bought seeds I usually get 7-8 out of ten (fem seed)

But I blame the large loss on the impact of storage and shipping.

With the seeds I have bred my self it's near 100% germ rate with 90% going to harvest. I always get the odd 1 or two that come out with issues. The most common probs I are the plants staying small or being mutants(usually having 3 branches/leaves growing from the stem rather than the usual 2)

I will be interested to see how other people do with their germ to harvest rates

sup man, ive grown only about 15 plants by myself. All ordered from attitude seeds. I've had 100% germ rate with mine using the paper towel method. They all made it fine besides a few deficiencies which was my fault..but keep in mind ive only ever ordered from attitude seeds so that'd just my experience with them not sure Bout other seed banks. :bong:

Yeah dude, it depends on where you got the seeds. Most seed banks are reputable sources and some will even work with you if you have germ issues, but for the most part, if its a healthy seed and you've got your set up dialed in, it should grow like a champ. If its a bagseed, you might be able to inquire as to the genetics, but who knows at that point. Dunno about male to female ratios in regular seeds though... good question.

OK, thanks for the responses! With the exception of 2 seeds, I have a stock entirely from Attitude. I know that they are reputable, but this will be my first grow, so there is bound to be some "user error" involved. (A.K.A., I will probably screw something up)

Here goes nothing :)

Best of luck on the 1st grow. I'm about to begin my first AF indoor grow. I started farming last year with some very expensive, supposed to be feminized whitewids and have no doubt that there was some user error. 1 plant out of 10 actually made it thru to budding. The plant ended up being about 16" tall with maybe 1/2 oz. after harvest. It took much longer to grow than any of the others that were just misc. that I had gathered on my own. I was not at all pleased with the out come of that gardening attempt. The seeds were expensive and most never germinated. That wasn't due to user error. I have always been successful thru the germination and veg cycles and just had no luck with the expensive fem.seeds. The one that did survive was dwarfed but I still saw potential in the plant so I successfully cloned her for 2 more. Still dwarfed females but I'm a little wiser with technique now 1 year and 2 non productive crops later. Keep at it and eventually things will come together for you.

This is a very good question to ask!!

With germination of seeds from a seed bank there are way too many variables present to give a definitive answer.
Some breeders are questionable...
How long have the seeds been sitting in storage.
Conditions when shipped, going from a hot country to a frozen country also has an impact on the germ rate.

So far i have been really lucky!
Nirvana seeds i got 4 out of 5 germ, the one did not even split after 2 weeks in paper towel.
Attitude i have 3 for 3.
Sannie's seeds i have germed all but one of the freebies that split and then did nothing else for a week.
RCMC i have a 6 for 6 germ rate! Excellent gear!!
Barneys Farm was 3 for 3.

All grew as expected with no stunting even from my self inflicted abuse!
Most have been super cropped and serious LST, except for the Auto's that i pretty much leave alone except for defoliation now and then.

For me the key is to add a few drops of H2O2 when wetting the paper towels, just to kill any germ or bacteria that could harm the seeds.
Oh and they also get placed on a roll of tape on top of a warm air duct in sealed containers.
A nice warm, humid environment is key!

When the tails are about 1cm in length they get transplanted into their first or final container, depending on type.

:peace:
