I’m starting some auto seeds for an outdoor grow and I’m wondering about the best way to go about it. We have some pretty intense heat (and sun) here in Texas (think southern Spain) and I’ve started a few from seed outside in 10 gallon smart pots but the 100° (38°C) temperature seems to slow down the seedling growth rate. So, I’m starting some inside. Now I’m faced with starting some in Root Riot cubes and others in solo cups and FoxFarm soil, under a fluorescent fixture. I know that it’s better to start auto flowering plants in their final container but is this an absolute? I mean, I could pop them in 3 gallon smart pots and grow maybe 6-8 under the light for 2-3 weeks before moving them outside I to the sun and the heat; but I was thinking about growing them in the solo cups (and putting the Root Riot cubes into solo cups) for 2 weeks and then transplanting then into 10 gallon smart pots. This would allow me to get 20 started and growing well prior to going outside. Am I hurting my chances/harvest with this method/strategy?
What strategy would you use to get started during these high temperatures? It’ll be this hot daily until late September.
