Indoor Seedlings question under Blackstar 240w LED

Hey there,

I'm new to growing so was just wanting some advice on seedlings. Just got a Blackstar 240w LED and was wondering what the consensus is for growing seedlings under LEDs? I've read not to put them in direct sun light or under powerful lights for the first week or 2 as the light is too strong, is this correct? What is the standard practice? Can I just make sure the light is far away?

Another question is general height of the LED from the canopy when in veg and flower. Does anyone have recommendations for this too?

Any help or suggestion would be most appreciated.

hey janda, welcome! a lot of growers use blackstars, i do myself! as soon as your seedlings have a set of true leaves, you can keep them under your led at about 15 to 18 inches thru the veg stage, when they start to flower 10 to 12 inches works well a little difference depending on strain, on my last grow node spacing was two inches, with the light at 18 inches, the ideal node spacing is about one inch, so i could have run the lights a little closer

Cheers for the info and the welcome too, much appreciated! So basically I keep them out of direct light until they've got a set of leaves? I'm going with vanilla kush feminized, not autos to start with, so I can can control the flowering. I've got a space about W 2foot x D2foot x H 5.8 foot. I've got a lowryder auto but i hear this strain isn't so stable. Was thinking of a scrog but may just try and grow first before attempting anything else, crawl before I can walk..

Just wondering too, What's the quickest turn around time for a grow? I had some advice from a friend that I should veg to about a foot and then flower and it will end up about 3 feet.

Hey Janda Im using LED to and I usually put my seedling under some cfls till idk 4-6 sets of leaves then under the LED same as astro says around 15-18in sometimes a bit more..Im ususally judgin by their growth..

quikest turn around no idea right off but lets say you have a fast flower that can do 50-60 days and you veg for 2-3 weeks depending on how they they grow 3 weeks might be ok and then again some can grow slow for 5-6 weeks..for photos some will double in the stretch and other sometimes more..I dont know much about the Van kush. but b4 I used to veg to 12-15-18 in and would get double plus think about how much head room youll need for your light with distance to the canopy and estimate at least double in size when you put it to flower..

Cheers Bombudz. Yeh vanilla kush are about 60days, was thinking of the CFL first and then go to the LED.

yea this works..get it up to the height or size you would like it to be think of double and put into flower it will prob take about a week or so to start flowering add that to your finish time overall...

I'm aware of this thread being quite old, just wanted to show what will happen to seedlings under a 240w led. The seedling is a NL in organic/no fert added soil and has been given zero ferts,,,only distilled RO water with a PH of 6.3. This one is 11 days old from seed and is obviously stunted and burnt. Turned the led off and just have 6500k cfls on now. I also let her pot go bone dry and gave her a nice drink before photo. Live and learn and I hope someone benefits from my retarded ass!!!! Obviosly did not do my homework once again!!!!
