New Grower Seeds won't grow.

After the mediocre results of my first grow I was excited to try again. So I ordered the same seeds again, which came with 4 freebies. Out of the 13 seeds only half sprouted, by the end I only had 2 plants, and got maybe 7 grams... failure. I thought maybe I got a bad batch of seeds.

I decide to place another order, with a note about what happened. The seed bank responded quickly and threw some freebies in with my order to make up for the previous failure. So with my 3rd order I got 25 seeds, and all different kinds of genetics. I'm down to 10 left. Out of the first 15 I put 3 seedlings in the ground yesterday. 2 of them are 3 weeks old, 1 was 10 days old. The 10 day old was bigger than the 3 week old ones. I don't expect anything from the 3 week old ones. I just put them in the ground for the hell of it.

Now I've tried all types of methods to get my seeds started at this point. Starting soil, (this worked great first time), dirt, paper towels, etc.. no success. So before I dive into the final 10 (5 NL, 5 WW) I figured I better try and get some advise. The only thing I can guess, is that it has been a lot more rainier, and there getting over watered.

I have to admit this is a slightly embarrassing post to make, but I'm at a loss at this point as to what to try next. So any advise,or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. For now my only option is to work outside, so I have to figure out how to make this work.

Hay man, sorry to hear about your troubles, don't worry, we can get you sorted here no probs.

In my personal experience planting straight into the soil has ALWAYS worked for me. Many don't like this method as it can mess with a grow schedule if one or two don't germ, but I only do 1-2 plants at a time anyways. My method is literally; make a small hole in the soil about 1/4" deep, plant seed, lightly cover with topsoil and water a little. Simple. I sometimes put a humidity dome of some kind over the hole (a small, clear, plastic container with a few holes poked in the top), this stops the soil drying out so quickly and creates a heavy humid climate for the seedling to come up into. I know many people just cover the whole top of the pot with clingfilm.
Another way which is very popular is to soak the seeds in some water for 12-24 hours, this softens the shells and speeds along the germination process. From there you can literally go into the soil, or as a lot of people do, into a damp paper towel of some kind, into a baggie and into a shoe box or container (needs to be light proof). Put this in a wam, NOT HOT, place i.e, on top of a fridge, in an airing cupboard, modem, cable receiver etc. After another 12-24 even 36 hours, the seeds usually show signs of a tap root, you can then carefully put into the growing medium.

If you can only work outside, what are your current temps/weather conditions? If you have had a lot of rain maybe thats' affected things.
If it were me I would just try the direct to soil method, pre soak if you wish. Cover the top of the pots with film or something if you live in a low humidity area, will also keep excess rainwater and other elements a bay until the little ones are a up. Don't saturate the pots with water, a little sprinkle to get things going is enough.

My method is literally; make a small hole in the soil about 1/4" deep, plant seed, lightly cover with topsoil and water a little. Simple.

This, plus a little rhyzotonic in the mix.

The Ronin way for me! Also, as a seasoned grower, I have had a problem this last grow too. I have simply over watered them and it stunts the shit out of em!! Try the germination method these guys posted with the root riot cubes and you will increase your germ rates to almost 100 %! Buying seeds at 10-20 bucks a seed can get expensive at 50% germ rate!!

I have a method similar to many but I have exceptional germination rates (90% easily). I don't soak seed in water....still wondering why people waste 2 days doing that? All I do is take 2 ceramic dinner plates. I then take four sheets of paper towel and fold them in half. Then I wet the paper towel to the point of being damp not overly wet. If I overdo it and add too much water then I simply press some of the water out. Do the same to another 4 sheets of paper towel. One layer of damp paper towel goes in the bottom plate, then the seed on top. Then the other layer of paper towel on top gently pressed to get good contact to the seeds. Then the other plate is flipped upside down and placed over the top of the other plate wit the seeds. The then plates are set into an area that's 85 degrees. In 12-24(longer for old seed) hours you will see them splitting the shells. Once the tap root is 1/8" I put them in soil using a spray bottle to keep it damp for the first week..

Thank you so much for the responses. I feel like I will have much more success now. The next thing I'm doing is ordering some of those cubes. I'll probably give most or all of these methods a try. I'm almost 100% positive my earlier trys got over watered.

@Dazed, weather conditions have been brutal 100+ degrees, 100% humidity, and a lot of rain. Until very lately anyway, but the weather has only backed off a little.

I have been able to make arrangements so the new seedlings wont sit in the rain anymore. Once the seedlings get a few inches tall, in the ground they go, and seem to do fine. Just gotta do a better job at keeping the bugs and fungus at bay.

I have 5 NL & 5 WW from Vision Seeds, and I feel confident enough to try some or all of these. Once they start I'll TRY to do as detailed breakdown on what I did and how it went, as I can. Has anyone else tried Vision Seeds? They're a bit cheaper so I hope they work ok. If anyone has any exp. working with these I would love to know how it went, and any other advise you might have.
