It is shameful that Colorado has created a situation where legal oz is more than black market cost per oz. due to illogical ban of outgrow growing and outrageous taxes. co has ensured drug cartels alive and well

Outdoor fields of cannabis in usa could be grown as readily as corn is .. with out interference from government taxes/laws the true price of cannabis maybe 20$ per oz.

Yeah, you're right...we should just make it illegal again and remove all those pathways to improvement and sanity. I absolutely hate that I can legally grow my own without the fear of it ruining the rest of my life. ;)

It may not be perfect, but it's one of the most concrete and ground-breaking changes that has happened...ever. Let's not miss seeing the forest for the trees.

Slow change isn't as satisfying, but it is the most foundational, the most long-lasting and generates the most consensus. Slow change is the most circumspect and therefore the most undeniable.

Easy Trapp.......Maybe an explanation of how it works from a coloradon will help enlighten Triton...Explane how people that are not in it for the money can grow there own supply worry free.

I hope no one gets mad. l love Colorado legalized weed .. I used to live there. just sayen................

Yeah, GA6...I was editing to sound less sarcastic....

The truth of the matter is that even if it isn't perfect, it's a step in the right direction. Legalization isn't going to happen anywhere unless the inn keeper gets his two bits...that's just a fact.

Teachers across the state are going to get their first raise in 5 years because of the tax revenues generated by recreational marijuana sales. That's a real, on the ground difference.

It's also a fact that a large portion, perhaps a majority, of the tax revenues will be generated by tourists...who would never buy it from the black market.

If one wants a target for ire, focus on the huge discrepancy between tax rates for medicinal vs. recreational. People getting other people with cards to buy for them so they
can get cheaper grams. To my mind there's no sense in that. Or the fact that banking is so hard because the FDIC is federal and won't insure dispensaries accounts.

As far as insuring the Black Market cartel's health, I'm not sure that's a straight equation based on price. The criminal element isn't so easily pinned down to lower prices.

I will admit, it was my intention to jump your case a little. I feel like your statements contained an ideological certitude and rigidity that didn't serve the discourse very effectively.

I guess I just bristled at the use of "shameful" whereas I would characterize it as "less than optimal", sorry about that.

On average in colorado how much is an oz for medical users and how much for recreational users?

Thankfully ;) I couldn't say....it's been 6 or 7 months since I bought any :)

But I think the tax discrepancy is somewhere around 20%...probably $275-$325 vs. $425-$475

Price breaks for quantity exist in the black market because it lowers the risk to get rid of more at one time
Price breaks for quantity don't exist in the astronomically "seller's market" dynamic of legal supply and demand.

Check Leafly.com for pricing on both. Rec is about 2X price of medical. I was in Denver a couple weeks ago and bought some rec pot. I was actually disappointed in the quality at $20 a gram. Also got a T-Shirt.

Colorado's prices seem high at the rec price but that's cheaper than here in Washington. We have such a shortage that the growers have been price gouging. One of the only two stores that have opened here has already sold it's license. We can't grow recrecationally in Washington, where in Colorado you can. Colorado has it better than we do. But we also were one of the first TWO in the nation that got the ball rolling. I really don't believe this whole think would be moving at light speed if only one state had legalized in 2012. So while our rec sucks, it is still better than what we had before. Living in a legal state is cool. Now we just have to make more things legal.
