Live Stoner Chat Shameful COl legal cannabis costs

Ok im going to call bullshit on all of this.
How is outdoor growing illogical ban? You can grow outdoors. Read the law.

Prices have dropped a lot for rec. Yes prices are very high on rec. Tax is an issue, 30% is part of the cause.
I know for a fact that the prices dropping wholesale across the board to retail.

Give it some time and use your head. Lots of reasons for high price. Retail will kill most of the black market in time.
Be a capitalist.

People are willing to pay a high price.....for now

I think there will always be a black market unless the prices drop by a significant amount, im curious to know on average how much the dispensaries pay per ounce....with prices being so low on the black market youd think it could be more profitable to sell your bud to dispensaries..i remember watching something on NatGeo where a Cali dispensary was buying bud at roughly $250 a zip from this grower...shit i hook up my friends for like $220 id be making more money going legal then on the black market lol and i wouldnt have to worry about a thing haha!

The problem with selling to dispensaries is the red tape and documentation....each plant has to be tracked and recorded from seedling to jar and the paperwork/permits/etc. (I hear) are bordering on insane. It's not like you can just go to the dispensary with your homegrown wares and unload a couple ounces...I wish. I would increase my operation to 12 plants tomorrow if I could pay rent with it.

I think the black-market is going to change drastically. I think the advent of legal homegrown is going to create better bud available and take the power away from any "traditional" illicit chain-of-command "cartel businesses". Criminals count on a market's illegality in order to corner it. Now that a ton of people will be growing more than they can smoke, they'll look to capitalize on the overage and a sort of "Black Farmer's Market" will emerge and the criminals won't have a monopoly due to their willingness to take the risk. People will still sling sacks under the table...they just won't be getting their supply from the old, unsavory criminal elements...

Once the exclusivity is gone, the cartels will move on to harder drugs.

I completely agree with your thinking Trapper. Spot on, imo..
I have friends who are paying $400 for an ounce of high mids, and when they sample mine, its quite a shock to their sensibilities. Of course, I can't sell to them, but if I could- taking into account the total expense of even my little auto grows- I could make a living at $200/ounce-for organic, medical grade.

I feel you i know its not easy and is a big hassle to do im just sayin if one can legally sell to a dispensary and make more than he would by having to commit a crime doing it illegally that will help take some people away from the black market also..

And i agree about the cartel thing i just meant what you said that their will always be a black market with people slanging sacks under the table not necessarily the drug cartels just the average joe tryna earn a few extra dollars selling bud...but im with you on that i think with sooo much high quality bud being grown its just a matter of time till nobody cares about the seedy dirt weed they send over and theyll move on to other drugs!

Also ive always wondered about this...do the cartels even push large quantities of high grade medical quality bud? Everytime i watch a show like border wars or something like that they always just get the typical bales of dirty brown reggie lol or if i watch a weed show and they find an outdoor grow theyll find a can of beans or something and be like " theres beans here it must be the cartels coming over growing in this area" lol do yall think the cartels are really a huge part of the high grade marijuana sells in the U.S or do you think its mostly just normal growers and dudes like us on here? ill definitely say they supply alll the dirt weed but do they push medical quality bud too? :Sharing One:

Here in Canada they changed the laws from being able to grow your own meds and make edibles to making you buy it from a liscenced grower at 8 to 12 dollars agram why because it went from a small amount to 35000 liscenced growers well then they had to worry about pesticides mold and the children oh we have to protect the children. Yet they will allow a doctor.s to prescribe opiods by the millions a year they get sold on the street ruin lives by the hundreds of thousands but 35000 pot growers are a real threat medical at that what a farce. under the new system it is projected by 2022 there will be in excess of 200.000 medical patients in Canada all having to buy weed from a liscenced growers at 8 dollars plus a gram. thank god there is some medical growers chalenging it so i hope it gets quashed. They just want to turn it into a tax making money pit.

Well, I don't personally think of cartels as only Organized Crime folk from other countries....I think there are Weed cartels in Northern California and other States too... ;)

Any time there are armed guards I categorize it that way.

Exactly trap it's so crazy to me when I watch documentaries on weed and they'll have some agents find a guerilla grow of like 5-10 plants and if there's any sort of Mexican food or something near by like that they all say "this must be the violent drug cartels from mexico traveling up here to grow on our land" i always think to myself that could be someones on AFN or just some average guy trying an outdoor grow lol

Something I thought of when reading OP was that "black market" does not equate to cartel business. How many local growers do you suppose dump their wares on the local off books market? I'd stake that there are many. It just wouldn't make feasible sense to bring cannabis INTO Colorado when it's legal. I get the spirit of what you're saying but as someone who lives in a state where I have to make a decision between risking my freedom and living in pain for the rest of my life I think maybe Trap has the right of it that you might have lost sight of the Forrest for the trees(no pun intended). It may benefit you to take a few steps backwards and view the situation in Colorado again in the wider national context before declaring the whole thing a mummer's farce.

Are you allowed to grow your own medicine in Colorado? if so how much?
