I have read and benefited from your work, and so left rep for it. Grateful that I dont have to try something for three seasons to advance my outdoor grows. If the least I can do is slap you with rep, even if I dont make it public with a what's it to anyone else.

I hear ya...I like dropping a personalized comment when I hit rep. Its just a cool sort of private way of recognition of someone's efforts.

I am very new, but I think it is nice when you post or do something and you get the rep message. It lets a new person know they are on the right track or that you said something that someone enjoyed. As for people manipulating the system just cap the points or just cap how many reps a person can give a year or month or whatever. Very easy fix.

hmm likes and rep is something i didnt understand for a long time.got the jist of likes,didnt quite get rep.forgot to thank others for it way to often,and forgot to rep others just as often.and still do.
maybe we all lose rep apart from the people with a band under their name ? only they can issue rep ?

I vote for keeping rep. I like the personal messages attached. I dont look at rep totals

on three different occasions, when the site was attacked twice, and once with the new server. myself like all the people that were here since 2011, lost thousands of points and rep. so all the numbers have ended up skewed.
I say do away with it.

I have to agree on benifits of rep points used correctly, i like being exited about someones content and being able to let them know 'someone was impressed with your shit today' haha.. And vica verca

Some means of identifying members what know that of which they speak is helpful to folks new to the place.
Then again, after lurking and reading for a while most folks should be able to get an idea as to who it is dat speak de true way and who be full o' poo.

I can't even imagine a method of awarding rep points that would be accurate, consistent and resistant to "abuse" but p'raps @Son of Hobbes might give a thumbnail of the new system you're considering?

...Everyone starts at 0, we have a new system in place (which we can explain) for how rep gets given out and can be given out, ...
