my understanding is trophy points are for the test team, earned for participation to completion. Earning points maintains your standing as a test team member. Yes?

That's how I've always used it at any site I've visited. If someone has been a member for a good while, has a few posts and very little rep... well, grain of salt. However been around a while, have posts AND rep, I'd probably pay closer attn to what info is said.

Another thing... trophy points. Do we need points for our badges? If it came to one or the other I'd prefer reps over trophy pts to help distinguish accomplished members.

[HASHTAG]#showyourbush[/HASHTAG] This is how I got my reps as I have 3 visits to my thread. Its nice to get some recognition isnt it?

DON'T even compare AFN to RIU! There is no comparison, we are WORLDS above them in maintaining an enjoyable place to discuss and learn about cannabis. Of course, if you love rude, obnoxious, know-it-alls controlling your forum, then RUI is the place..........
There is valuable information on RUI, but you need to be ready to be abused for simply being the new guy, then see what happens when you post!

I've mixed feelings about the "auto warriors", they have done some great work, but I feel they are one of the reasons rep has lost its value. Seems to be a lot rep in a small group with so many new people.

the high team serves a purpose other forums could take a lesson from, they maintain the AFN "vibe", they remind us to chill out when we get a little too passionate about something, and help weed out the bad apples. So have no real comparison to the rep issue. They need to stay.

And what's wrong with recognition for your accomplishments here? Especially for new people, and even more so for new people who are totally new to growing. I see a lot of nervous, insecure feelings expressed by new growers here, and rep and awards help them feel good about their work and accomplishments, even if it is that they only succeeded in growing a plant to completion without killing it!

The problem with this whole thread is it is full of one-sided views that give little thought to both sides of the story

:slap:

Why not get rid of high team and auto warriors banners? Staff, admin and mod are all thats needed right. Also badges and likes too ? trophy points, post count, adios who needs em!

we could call it Auto flower/roll it up .net

For that matter what does join date tell you? Some one logs in once a year since 2012?

This is all derision to be clear :vibe:

what's happening that has affected rep is groups getting together and repping the hell outa each other to amass points they don't necessarily deserve, the same issue I have with BOM/POM, its more often a popularity contest than a fair competition.

I was just looking at this actually I have seen some 6 month old members with 20000+ rep points, although that person probably deserves it the amount I personally can give is only 100 rep points at the time how do you get to that much rep in such a short period?

With the move to the new AFN the AFN old schoolers lost all rep, to start fresh.
Maybe it would be good to restart fresh again, but the amount of rep that should be given out should be the same for everyone. eg. all have 100 rep points at the time. not starting with 12 points to give out and exponentially get to 2000 points.

Scrapping the whole thing would work too, but for new growers looking for the most experienced growers answer would be tuff, unless the best answer gig is brought forward and members choose what they think the best answer is...

me 2 cents!

rep and post count can be of value. Example, we not long ago had a grower come to the forum who has big rep on youtube. Turns out he was just lucky... he spouted more BS than a full house at the lairs club! Just because someone posted pics that look great, doesn't make them a great grower. Its what they have to say that matters. There is more to consider as to who is giving us useful information than one good grow can tell you. Its how they deal with issues in their grows that matter.

As a new grower ,when I have a question I search multiple sites at once. I very rarely look at a persons "rep" or post count. I usually look at what's in the thread , I.E. pictures of their grow or just the content of their posts. And because there is so much info on the web it's easy to cross check/fact check most questions I have.

When I was on an old car forum they had a "post whore" thread solely for the purpose of upping post counts. Guys had upwards of 20k posts without contributing a thing.

I like the badges. You make a grow thread, you get a badge. Guys with a lot of badges usually have experience , and with that , sound advice.

Concur with everything you've said. What you said about new growers especially...
