New Grower Skatters perpetual DWC/Coco Grow Show

Awesome dude. I'm about to get started myself with dwc and a secret jardin dr300w (10 x 5 x 7) using autoflowering seeds (dp think differents). Have two 315 watt leds from bsled and one 600w (I think!) hps bulb that my patient just got a hold of. Just waiting for my parts to arrive in the mail and I'm gonna get going. I'll be watching this thread for inspiration. Maybe we cam learn from each other's mistakes, though my time line to get started is probably next Monday, approximately...

Awesome! I'm sure we will be able to learn from one another. I have already made plenty of mistakes, good thing these are some tough bitches! :ladies:

Waiting for that damn post man is the worst part, but once the boxes come to the door it is like christmas morning haha

Awesome journal so far! Has to be one of the most creatively written journals I've read online. Your not an author by chance? Lol

That looks like a crazy setup. Wish I had the space for it. I'm running a 2x4x5 tent with 6 autos. I've got a one week old critical jack growing in soil so it will be interesting to see the difference on your DWC. I'm planning on going DWC in the future just trying to keep it simple for now. I'm no expert but thinking you may need a bigger carbon filter in your larger tent. I'm sure more experience members would know better and based on your insane planning I'm sure you've already crunched the numbers.

This journal is going to be a great learning experience for me. I'm also on my first grow so ill be interested to see your results with this amazing setup :D

Thanks! I recently discovered that I have a knack for writing, and enjoy it quite a bit. That is a large reason why I chose Jack Herrer as one of my first strains. Love the Sativas to get the creative juices flowing haha. Business is my specialty (Entrepreneurship, specifically), but I have a degree in accounting. People look at me like I'm some sort of bafoon when I tell them I don't want to work for an accounting firm, and would rather write

Valid concern you raise about the carbon filter, but its surprisingly big so I am hoping it can hold up. My inline fan is only 430 CFM, but since my grow is located in a basement and my lights are all aircooled, I'm hoping that I don't need to exchange the air in the tent THAT often to keep the temps down.

I bought this stuff called ONA, mixed it with soil moist in a bucket, and secured a fan to it. I could smoke a blunt on the couch and 10 minutes later the room smells like fresh linens. Wonderful stuff, so I'm hoping if the smells get out of control I can plug two of those bad boys in while I wait for a bigger fan to come in the mail or something.

Glad to have some other new growers along for the ride. It should be interesting to say the least haha. Worst case scenerio is I shit the bed, and learn from my mistakes. No harm in trying :gthumb:

Update

I had been struggling with some bad damage to the plants from improper PH, and Nute Burn. Over the last two days I had drained a bit of the water, and replaced it with PH balanced water hoping to cut the PPMs down a little bit.

This morning I open the tent to see if the ladies looked any better, and what I saw made my stomach curl. It was like seeing one of those horrific stories on the news, about some psychopath who had been torturing a bunch of women in his basement. That feeling was amplified by the realization that I AM THE MONSTER :face:

The abuse hadn't begun to reverse, but continued to get worse. The leaves were even more lifeless than they had been the day before. I checked the PPM's and they had skyrocketed above 1000

The one Critical Jack was burning up badly, and then completely locked out nutrient uptake. The second one didn't show any new signs of burning, however the leaves began to arc upwards like they were trying to roll a joint.

I immediately prepared a fresh res for both of the plants, with only water at 5.8 PH. I'm hoping that if I can completely flush them out, and start back with very low nutes they will recover.

On the bright side, the little white widow appears to be happy and healthy. When I opened the tent her leaves were pointing to the sky. She is showing no signs of stress, despite her friends being treated like prisoners at Guantanamo Bay.

Hopefully things will start to turn around shortly. I was hoping to apply Colloidal Silver to the plant that is in the worst shape, but I have to wait for her to get healthy before applying the additional stress of a sex reversal KISS. She is the one in the pictures...

Sorry for the bad luck. Im still pretty new myself but from what I've heard you really want to go light on the nutes with Autos. Usually they say half to quarter strength. Also if your not already you could try mixing your water/nutes in a separate bucket with an air stone for 24hrs before you add it to your res. Then you can check your ph/ppm beforehand. I'm sure they'll make a quick recovery.

Wow a psychopath in your basement huh? Lmao You are hilarious. I hear you about career choices. I'm in insurance myself lol. Wish I would've gotten into something fun like writing or horticulture.

Good luck!

I wish I could blame it on bad luck haha. And yeah I was aware of the auto sensitivity and was feeding them at half strength. The PPMs were pretty high early on despite feeding them less than what the "Doctor Ordered", and they seemed to be doing fine. After this flush I definitely plan to cut them WAY back, and only gradually increase them. The first few weeks I struggled big time with PH swings, because I hadn't been bubbling the water. Not sure why I didn't put two and two together a little sooner, considering my tap water smells like a god damn water park LOL. Ever since I have been bubbling them for 24 hours, the PH has been much more stable.

As for careers, I am told that blowing off opportunities in a secure high paying field in this economy is foolish, selfish, risky and unwise. I wont argue otherwise, but I think the biggest risk of all is settling into a life that doesn't make you happy, with the expectation that later down the line you can buy yourself the freedom to do what you want. I don't know whether or not it will work out, but I'm happy for now haha

Figured you knew your nutes but thought I'd give my 2 cents just in case :D

I know what you mean. The job outlook in my current career is excellent but it's boring as hell. Thank god for weed! Lol I completely agree with you. It's a lot bigger of a risk to settle into a life that doesn't make you happy.

Sorry for the bad luck bro! What was your EC and PH when this happened?
