Thought about posting in the new grower area, but I specifically sought out Mephisto so decided to start here. Researched for 2 months, bought all supplies and seeds and finally got the ladies going on Friday last week.

Equipment:
2x Viparspectra LED 300V
4x4x8 Vivosun Grow Tent
6” Vivosun Carbon Filter & 6” Inline Fan
8ft ducting
5gal smart pots
iHome Temp/Humidity/Light/Motion/Sound WiFi sensor
6” clip fan w/ iHome smart plug
Ph/Moisture Soil Meter
AirRite Temp/Humidty meter

Grow area is a spare bedroom, in a prohibition but liberal state. I own the home and live alone.

Genetics:
Mephisto Skylar White
Mephisto Creme de la Chem

Medium/Nutrients:
Fox Farm Ocean Forest / Light Warrior
Light on top half, OF on bottom
FoxFarm Trio
CalMag if needed

Germination in the paper towel method, both cracked within 36 hours. Planted on Sunday, seedlings came above soil by Tuesday. Both had the helmet stuck to them, I was able to remove it from the Skylar without any damage, though the main leafs are still pointing upward in the position they were stuck in. Hoping they open up soon. The Chem still has the helmet stuck to the end of one leaf, but the leaf can get light so I’m hoping it just grows out and the helmet falls off. Pics below from yesterday before I removed the Skylar helmet.

Currently on Day 4, pics are from Day 3. Fully saturated the soil with adequate runoff before planting, and the moisture meter says both are still good about 1/3 the way down, but pretty dry above. I just listed water on both in a circle around the seedling to moisten the top layer up a tiny bit. I may do it again tomorrow but trying really hard to avoid over watering. I hear it’s hard to overwater in smart pots though?

Anyway, the ladies! Sorry the pics suck. I wasn’t planning on doing a journal so I will take better ones as we go forward.

Nice set up man !! U did all your homework and invested I see. 1st grow? In a few days to week or so I would rinse perlite and add a solid layer to the top. Fungus gnats will come and they are not fun. Other than that looks really solid. I’ll keep an eye on ur grow for sure

Thanks man! I had considered adding 30% perlite but didn’t have a good means of evenly mixing so I went without. When you say “rinse perlite” what do you mean? If I can just add a layer to the top of the pots, I will do that as soon as the seedlings establish a bit more.

I rinse the perlite meaning put in strainer and run through water . I use a gallon of distilled. Let it dry for a day .. if you don’t there is so much dust and it’s a mess man. Goes all over the plants when u put down. Either way but just a lot easier from someone that had their plants covered in perlite dust for first few weeks lol

Does perlite control fungas gnats? I have heard a layer of sand will prevent the buggers from laying eggs in the soil and therefore protecting the roots because they can't get thru the sand. Or sprinkling Diatomaceous earth on top will kill them. Or get them with crushed up mosquito dunks and top dressing. Never heard of doing this with Perlite.

Yeah man works for me .. sand is good but heard it puts weight on the roots .. here is my current grow with perlite pics .. fungus gnats arrived and no longer there . They can’t lay eggs on the perlite. But I obviously can learn how to put pics up right way .. lol

Thanks man! I will have to give that a shot.

Few more pics from this morning, Day 4:

The two large leaves are still pointing upward from the seed helmet being stuck to them, but they are getting bigger and seem to be opening up under the light.

If you look closely at the top leaf, you can see the seed helmet stuck to it. It’s stuck underneath and the full leaf is exposed to the light. I tried getting the helmet off last night but it wasn’t coming off and I didn’t want to force it. My thought is that it can get full light so it should just grow larger until the helmet falls off? What do you guys think?
