Hey Fellas,

I use Smart Pots with a medium mix of OF and CoCo fiber.

I have the pots in overflow trays.

I have what appear to be healthy root tips at on the sides and base around the overflow.

Should I be using the overflow trays?

You can but it's nor essential. I'm assuming you know the purpose of a smart/air pot but I'll repeat it anyway for folks listening.

They are for the end of the roots to reach the air and essentially die. This will send a signal for that root to then branch out along the length of its self forming a larger root mass in the pot.

That being said yes if you put in the tray they will probably feed a little bit. But when I ran smart pots my trays were filled with rocks. Large rock to keep the bottom way away from anything collecting in the bottom as run off. I don't want the chance of it staying too wet at the bottom and causing root rot. Just my 2 cents. Moving along now

I have clay pebbles, do you think it would be beneficial to use those?
