New Grower Soil PH

This will be my first ever grow and I have some questions about soil. I need to know the best way to check the PH of the soil with a test kit not a meter. Also, how do I decrease the PH of the soil? Please help.

I need to know the best way to check the PH of the soil with a test kit not a meter.

This is almost impossible to do accurately... without a soil meter, you have to use run-off which will be discolored, skewing any result seen on the color chart, thus reducing or eliminating the accuracy with a color chart kit.

Also, how do I decrease the PH of the soil?

Sulfur can be used to lower pH.
