I posted about this in the New Growers Academy but didn’t get much response. Maybe this section will be more appropriate.

The seeds were 3 of a pack of 7 ordered from Jan 4, 2017 discountcannabisseeds and delivered at the end of the month.

Of the two I show photos of, one seems to be a miniature. I noticed after they came up and two of the three were weak to that the seeds were dated 2015. With this being the beginning of 2017 they could be anywhere from 1-2 years old. I won’t even discuss what a disappointment the third sprout was.

600 W MH. DWC using Botanical Pure Blend Pro. Keeping pH close to 5.8. Water temp 68. Room temp 75 when lights are on, getting to 64 with lights off.

Are my experiences typical? Was it an old seed issue? If so should I be contacting the folks at discountcannabisseeds to get some replacements? If it typical (the variance in performance) it would seem necessary to plant more seeds than needed and thin out the poor performers.

Also I planted another 2 seeds 8 days ago. One popped after 3 days.

Old seed stock looks to be the issue and I would send the business you purchased from an e-mail to seek replacement.
I have never had an issue with Mephisto Genetics with germination or vigor of plants and believe it's very rare to have a bad seed directly from them. If you choose to get their genetics again I would recommend purchasing directly from their website that way you will have awesome customer service and excellent genetics without issues.

Hey, it could just be the hologram that had the code 2015 but the seeds, unless the shop you had bought them from was holding them along time, I doubt they would be that old - can't say for sure but sour crack being a popular strain we remake it pretty often indeed. At least one seedrun a year maybe two.

I can't say how those seeds are stored when they reach another shop, and as we don't deal directly with smaller shops I don't know who supplied them the stock either so could have been passed along a couple of times, but seeds even at room temp can last several years and still be decent without issue.

Have a look at our germination guide (not saying it's you) but we always get great results this way -

I understand your concern with the dated seeds but looking at the plants now the concern should be on your feeding and PPM level. Looking at the plants they are hurting from to much nitrogen.

Mitch - Thanks for the response. As I said 4 of the 5 germinated. My question was really directed to the difference in the two sisters. I would be interested in your thoughts on the that differences as the plants were grown in identical conditions.

I sent off a note to discount seeds last night and got this response.

I guess I will not be ordering from them unless I don't care about the ability to germinate.

HotBunz - Thanks for you input. Your posted sour crack grows is part of what pushed me to this strain.

What was it that makes you say too much nitrogen? Just the dark green? I don't see the tips curling. I guess this makes sense even considering how light I have been going on the nutrients because of the tap water I have here. My PPM straight out of the tap is 550 and the nitrogen nitrate seems to be high based on testing done for my aquaponics system. I have a jalapeno that has 1. Slow growth 2. Very dark leaves 3. Curling under - I think that is the problem there.

I have started to use only R/O only water. Do you think the excess nitrogen is the reason for the small plant? Maybe more sensitive to excess nitrogen than the other? As they have been next to each other in the same DWC, I have to believe there is a difference in the sisters genetics.
