I'll probabl have a few so best to keep them in one thread !

How do you stop the plants from falling over? Those clay pellets don't look like they'd hold well when the plant gets large.

Cheers,

Steely.

What are the clay pellets in?

I wondered that too when I did my first grow. They do however, stand up in it without falling over just fine, just make sure they are planted in it deep enough. I planted my seedlings so that the tops were just above the rin and fill the cup so that most of the stem was buried. AOnce grown a bit, the root mass is like a counter weight also. LST is a little tricky but can be done.

How about the quantity of nutes i'll need in a single-plant DWC ?

A lot of the hydro threads i read the past couple of days have had plants drinking up to 8L a day!

If you are feeding 5ml/L of nutes then thats 40ml per day = 1.2L per month.

So you can easily use a couple of litres of veg nutes in a single grow!?

That certainly increases the cost of a grow, especially with the price of the advanced nutes stuff i was looking at!

8l per day would be at the height of its growth in the standard 20l bucket.

So you fill your bucket with the H20
Add your nutes
Your little plant is growng
It may take a liter that first week
Time to change your nutes
Your little plant may drink two liters this week
Top it off with H20 as needed during the week as needed
Time to change your nutes
Your little plant may drink three liters this week
Top it off with H20 as needed during the week as needed
Etc......

This is the easy schedule to keep with DWC until you get you head wrapped around the basics.
It will give you a good grow and after you learn to do it that way , you can start pushing them harder by topping off with nutes.
You will burn the crap out of them otherwise.

I know you've seen my first grow, done in DWC. I chose the KISS method for my first grow for a reason, to keep the number of mistakes I could make to a minimum, and to keep costs down. My results speaK for themselves. Liquid nutes are very expensive, partly due to the cost of shipping, and because the maker increases his profit 10000% over dry formulas. I used General Hydroponics Maxi Grow and Maxi Bloom. and nothing else. I got great results, never had a moments problem, and kept my cost within my budget. I paid $31.70 for the two bags. I mixed enough to bring my res to 600-700 ppms thru veg, and very slowly raised the Bloom from 700 ppms to 1000 ppms. I'm totally not convinced that i even needed to run levels that high, plants can only take in X amount of nutes at a time and the biggest 1 week drop in ppm was 300 for a week.
I probably have enough lft for 4-5 more grows also! I'd reccomend this to anyone doing DWC. And you could still add all the fancy bloom and bud enhancers if you wished. Maybe they'd make it even better, but I'm sceptical of the value of any of that stuff, IMO they are about as useful as those pills from Smiling Bob............
