Grow Mediums stem problem w/ pics -need advice

I'll see if we can get this moved to the inermiry or hydro, get you some more brains on it.

Those spots on the stems are common and nothing to worry about. Also the bottom yellow and scrub little stems should be removed because they wont amount to anything,so basically theres nothing wrong with those plants.

I'm still pretty new to hydro myself, on my second grow, but everything I've read says not to keep rock wool constantly soaked as it can cause root rot. The Current Culture RDWC system I'm running stresses that the rock wool should remain about 1/4 to 1/2" above the water level. The bubbling from the air stone will put out enough moisture to keep the rock wood moist but not soaked. By the looks of your lower stems, right where they come out of the rock wool, and given that you also have algae growing on top of the rock wool suggest to me that could be your problem.

Just my opinion but I wouldn't let the water drain so near to my plant. I would get that tube away from the stem. The roots are plenty big enough now not to need to have it so close to the plant.

I'd appreciate that, I should of posted it there in the first place but I was unsure where to post this.

What about how the whole stem is basically broken in half and open? THe other one isn't broken open but the black jack is(the one to the far left of the two smaller plants)

I just noticed the algae and also I am now realizing that the water shouldn't be released onto the rockwool now. I will fix that as I didn't think anything was wrong with it but now that I know there is I will definitely fix it so thank you for this. It doesn't solve the actual black stem problem though and how it broke in half.

I'm going to take it away from the rockwool and have it pour outside of the rockwool. Thank you for your advice.

Thank you every one, I'm going to take the hoses off of the rockwool for it to flow outside of it...but either way the plants both look pretty bad. What should I do about the black stem problems? No one has said anything about what to do to fix those...besides adding more calcium but I just want to make sure I know what to get if I have to add more stuff so I don't drive twice to the hydro store 45 minutes away lol :)

sorry, I'm just a noob, but the way that one plant is wilting I dunno if you can fix it. you may have stem rot they shouldn't turn black for sure! Good luck, and I hope someone has a better answer! :Sharing One:

So I pretty much cut above the stem problem on each plant and got rooting gel to re-root them and put them in a fresh rockwool to see if they will make it. The stems snapped on both and they both had algae on the rockwool so I learned from my mistake of keeping the water going on top of the rockwool.

The black jack looks good in the rockwool cubes and I think it has the best chance of surviving, I had to cut high on the other one and it didn't grow as much as the black jack so that is less likely to survive because of how small the cutting is.

I'll let you guys know what happens. Lets hope I'm not just crazy and this might work

time for some non worrying :)

I think your water pressure is a bit high and its splashes all over keeping it costly wet, if it were me I'd cover your tube with hydrotone to keep it from splashing, and if it DWC you can stop dumping water in the top..... I just pump water in the begining when the root system is small , once it can get hit with water in the bucket, your done top feeding... My 2 cents
