I'm having some issues with my STS mix and thought to ask others who mix this stuff up if they too have the same reactions, or it's me and I've got a problem. First My Thiosulphate is pentahydrate. I noted it's exothermic and takes time to dissolve-more on that in a bit.
I've made 4 small batches so far #3 the silver nitrate crashed on dissolve no doubt a contaminate-instant silver oxide. On all other runs I get a precitpitate-I improved my technique to what chemist call "using your best technique" I made the 0.1m stock solution, diluted it to 0.02 within 30 minutes in the frig it's clouding. Now the turns brown then black on exposure to light I've seen-but as of yet I have yet to make a stock solution that doesn't start to condensate within minutes-at first it's just clowdy but over time it looks like several week old ready to toss.
What do you guys have happen? If it's everybody's results too I don't need to spend time fixing what ain't broke-or am it broke?

You guys keeping this stuff in the fridge? As I made mine and stored in a mason jar in fridge and its a few weeks old and still looks sorta clear?!?! Wonder if my chemicals are fucked up hence the trouble with my reversals.. This upcoming round of s/Hims will be done some with sts and other with CS put this reversal thing for me to rest... Never thought it would be so hard to convince these ladies they NEED BALLS!

Take a small amount of your solution and set it in the sun--it turns brown then black. If not you may have been snookered on the silver.

How long should the solution be sitting out before I see a reaction? I put some in a clear glass cup and put it in my grow tent... Figuring that should stimulate being outside.... Be very curious to see what happens to my solution of anything....

It should turn brown in just a few minutes, black in less than an hour. The stuff is mostly water but you'll see it, or somethings wrong.

Well explains things! I've left jar out of fridge for a few hours before and no change of color...I have one 10g container of SN from another supplier... This is all making sense now, no wonder why I was able to spray sts twice daily since I started... The plant def has sacks but not sure if it was from the spraying it because I stressed the shot out of it... Will update with pics, CS is starting to sound better, really am hoping that my other batch is legit...

If it stayed clear you kept it out of the light like your suppose to. Just because some of the silver has been photo reacted doesn't mean all of the STS is decayed. STS came to botany by way of photography it is the hart and soul of old fashion photography. I was educated as a chemist-the subject of silver nitrate and thiosulphate and ect-- first thing they teach is "now this stuff if photo reactive" and they put some out and during class it changes.

Thanks for all the help everyone! This is such a learning process, and I won't quit till I get it! Thankfully now at least I have my own seed stock to mess with... Got some promo strains on the way that I want to seed...(auto amnesia, mi5, black jack, s.a.d)
Here is a pic of the plant I'm trying a reversal on now... Does it look like it sorta worked? Should I continue on with the daily spraying of the sts? Been spraying everyday now...
Thanks for any insight!
Peace
