I wonder why hydro isn't more popular around here? The ratio of soil to hydro grows is really skewed towards soil on this forum, compared to other (obviously lesser) forums. Lol.
Maybe not being able to run clones is part of the reason, or wanting to run several strains in a room at once?
Not bitching, just wondering. Whadda ya think?

Snide comment:
That's because we hydro folks have fewer problems, and bigger yields, than those germ/pathogen infested soil growers.

In my 3 years experience growing outdoors and knowing both indoor and outdoor local growers, my opinion is too many scary myths about hydro are still out there. The biggest one being its very difficult. Locally I know if only 1 hydro grower out of 20-30 growers i know (well 2 if you count me now lol). The rest grow in soil. And it was the myths of my soil colleagues that actually scared me off hydro for years. Only to find out that the myths are exaggerated. In my personal case im finding DWC 5 gallon buckets to be the easiest most noob friendly system thats even easier than soil. Its more precise and its easier to replicate what you did right when you understand and you have more control. Also for outdoor growers its hard to tempt us away from our free giant light bulb when we have the privilege of having it lol.

But with all that said and done yeah I'm never going back to soil. Im thinking of becoming a permanent resident on the hydro forum lmao.

True enough in the myth theory. I can screw the pooch on a soil grow faster than you can say "I wouldn't have done that, dude..."
Hydro is so easy most of the time, by comparison. Make a small mistake, adjust the res and carry on. Big mistake, dump and refill (as long as you catch it quick). Hell, I've even changed nutrient line mid-grow. I don't endorse it, but I saved a grow that way once, and had no further trouble.
Once things start going bad on me in dirt, its a matter if luck if I can save it.
I like being able to directly measure things!

The soil and coco growers really do outnumber the hydro guys on afn.
But there are still a good number of hydro growers on here but most dont seem to document in this forum for one reason or another

Haha, lurking in the shadows, stirring bubbling pots of mystery juice. Eye of lizard, wing of bat, and 5ml of juiced frog pecker per gal.:muahaha:

This chart has probably been posted before, but it's especially useful for hydro (stay in the green):

AND DONT GET ME STARTED ON ROOT APHIDS!! I still have PTSD over those. With that said beubg able to examine my roots is probably one of the biggest +++ IMO. And i disagree with hydro not recommended for beginners even in sites like growweedeasy recommend soil for beginners. Many guides on the net also steer beginners away from soil. While i understand the reasoning i think its flawed and sometimes for a couple of reasons.

[HASHTAG]#1[/HASHTAG] its not easy to get good quality soil everywhere. This is true in my case. It was the [HASHTAG]#1[/HASHTAG] reason i had many MANY failed soil grows. Theres no access here to good soils like fox farm only miracle grow or local unknown brands with foams plastics and even bottlecaps inside. No amount of perlite, aereation or the most expensive nutes will save u if u start with bad soil.

[HASHTAG]#2[/HASHTAG] not evervody needs RO. Not all tap water is created equal.

[HASHTAG]#3[/HASHTAG] drain to waste indoors is a pain in the ass.

I have more but the point is easier is just too subjective and based on where you live and what is available to you locally for a viable grow.

I am a river to my people lol!

Yes we are rare here..

As part of the high team it is part of my job to help promote the hydro section!

Probably not doing a great job of that as I've not been growing for the last few months :frowny:

I am off to the hardware today and going to reboot my dwc aquaponics

Constructive comments welcome as always! We can get the hydro back on track!

I agree man not many hydro folks here. I see more coco people trying to mimic hydro results, some even do. Other than that it's all soil. Whatever floats your boat I guess. I myself am a water baby at heart! Dwc will be my go to any day of the week.

I do think the fact that a lot of autos have short veg times and arent cloneable. That has a big part as to why I dont rub n many autos in hydro. I prefer my photo strains in dwc. Thats not to say autos cant perform in hydro, i just prefer my autos in 3gal of coco and my photos in 4gal of water lol
