Live Stoner Chat Team Speak 3 Server?

Hi everyone! I was just wondering if anyone had considered making a ts3 server? I just thought it would be good fun! I would be willing to host one off my dedicated server? With the admins graces ofc :tiphat:

For anyone who does not know what ts3 is... it is basically a voice chat server. I was thinking we could make different channels for different languages and help channels ect...

Just an idea...

Personally bud, as fun as it would be (and I've used Teamspeak before,) I think it would be a security risk (who is viewing those IP's?,) you're projecting your voice to strangers you've never met (that's a pretty big one,) and it's a 3rd party program that could have vulnerabilities beyond our control.

It sounds great; but with so many unknowns up in the air and factor in the legal status for many of our members, in my opinion, seems like a liability. :tiphat:

Hmmm good points.. the ip isn't a problem for me as all of my traffic goes through a vpn but i could see how it could be a problem for others. What if the server was for members that are well known or above a certain level and was password protected? I don't think the security would be much of a problem... I could rotate the ip of it though a vpn and use a no-ip address to connect to it. I think that would work anyways.

Not trying to Dis' you, but we don't have any kind of chat here for a reason. Stay focused on the content of the site. Security is our utmost concern.


Tho I don't have a problem with chat, if we could do it where it wasn't more of a problem than it is a benefit, I would be on board.

You might of misunderstood me there m8ty i am very chilled and just offering help. I wasn't trying to redesign anything on the forum i was offering to host a teamspeak 3 server (with the admins blessings) which has nothing to do with vbulletin. I did mention on another topic (the wish list or something) that i would like to see an ajax chatbox and ajax threads but i thought that's what the wish list was for. I'm sorry if you have taken it the wrong way but i am a founder and owner of a gaming clan and have a lot of experience with the technical side of things including various systems ranging from various linux distro's + firewalls and vbulletin. It's my nature to try and improve and fix things and the guys here have been so helpful with my grow i thought i would try and give back in what way i can.

I hope you guys are not offended and my help will always be there if you need me.

I haven't discussed this with the other admins yet but off the top of my head I doubt it's something the AFN would want to be involved in. We did have chat here for quite some time and it was pretty much a bust. So few people were participating that when we did the last vBulletin upgrade we didn't bother upgrading the chat software to be compatible with the newest version of vB.

Not offended at all brother; I think Eek was just stressing more of the "security" side of things with his statement. It's a very generous offer and from one gamer to another I totally get where you're coming from with it and definitely see the potential of having live voice help and chats (plus it would just be fun.)

However, this website isn't a gaming website and the subject matter of the site is illegal in many parts of the world for our members. We would not be able to afford the resources (staffing) nor the security risks of having a 3rd party software not in our control (I don't speak for any of our other members, but that makes ME nervous, and I think it would make others too.) As stated before, you're also identifying yourself by your voice in the chat to people you don't know.

It is absolutely NOTHING against you brother; as I originally said it's a very generous offer and appreciate you extending the invitation I just don't think that's a good fit for us right now. Maybe down the line as laws progress and we figure some things out we can definitely look into it; but in the meantime our resources need to be spent elsewhere.

Please keep up the good ideas though; just because something doesn't get put through today doesn't mean it doesn't get remembered or brought up tomorrow! "AFN smoke out"

I guess i will continue to dream of a day when we do not have to hide in the shadows but i do understand the reasons and will keep it in mind for the future when we are all free and i will keep on coming up with as many ideas as i can to help this great community evolve.

I wasn't thinking you were really redesigning AFN, I was just joking around. I was noting your enthusiasm is all. I appreciate enthusiasm.
